so basically has this big "crash" been caused by the futures contracts ending today? some people would stand to make a lot of money if the price of btc went down. opinions??

I don't know about a "lot", but the downward trajectory on futures (and the crash today) have netted me a a decent amount.

Among other things. Natural correction (come on, that dec-jan price spike was stupid), futures & manipulation, Chinese new year, Korea FUD. Perfect storm for a big dip.
