Read up on it, but in a nutshell it is ethereum 2.0 designed to be pos from the ground up with lessons learned from Eth's limitations. Think of it this way, how many Eth ecosystem projects only exist to shore up or scale up eth itself? The project is extremely green and the hype has far surpassed it's current usefulness but people are betting on the potential which is quite high.
