The ROI on so many coins in my portfolio is huge for nodes but they're all out of my reach, 50k for VEN, 500k for LUX

Look at footycash. Its a fantasy sports platform currently in beta with masternodes. Masternode holders get 50% of the platform revenue too. Masternode is around $10k. Big promotions and mobile beta launch are due next week, so I think a masternode will not be this cheap for much longer.
