There are no cryptocurrencies actually being widely used in the real world. Normies have only heard about Bitcoin at the most.
Yet it's unimaginable for cryptocoins not to be adapted in the future so the best is still to come even if there are a few bear traps ahead.

That's great and all but I exchanged my dollars for pesos when I went to Mexico so what's the value add?

Having a universal currency is a huge problem because that'll cause the Southern EU problem. Goods and Services cost the same in Italty as they do in Germany which is a problem is your countries competitive advantage is being a cheap tourist economy. Our globalized economy works because milk and food costs more in American than it does in Mexico or China. You should read up on IOTA's problems. I don't quite trust it to be reliable, using it left a bad taste in my mouth when the spam attack crippled it, and the POW required for transactions can't be done by IOT devices. The devs are also immature. Not gonna bet on that one at this point

Same here, I made several x with IOTA, but bailed when I read up on the tech problems.

Since you seem to take rational critic well I'll just try to sum up my worries about it some more so that you can take caution if you wanna.

Basically the problem is is that weight generated by POW is what secures the transactions. So the nodes will do POW when they transact. But assuming that the POW needs to be non-trivial to protect the network against hashrate attacks, is it currently really sufficiently demanding? I don't think it is, especially because IOT devices can't do POW and won't add to the hashrate of the network. Either they'd have to increase the POW requirement, making most clients unwilling to do POW and instead just pay other nodes to do it (creating miners just like in BTC), or they keep the tiny hashrate and leave the network at questionable security

Not sure. I mean surely they could benefit from real-time money transfer though, but even then
- IOT devices don't really exist yet
- there's often no need to do payments real-time, and data transfer can be done through regular internet
- other coins offer fast and free or almost free transactions meanwhile IOTA is still unreliable and takes several minutes per transactions minimum

Nah, this is different, because no one is even talking about profit. We are here to make x10, dump and move on.
This is literally bond speculation on steroids on the moon.
