Thinking of investing money once my morgtage is paid of by dumping the payment into an account.

What would be a good broker to use? Ive heard good things about TD but not much in general

Also what does /biz/ think about dividend stocks with low p/e like AT&T or Ford?

Not really much to think. They're stable, low-growth, "value" stocks. Pretty much anything in the DJIA has relatively low volatility, pays a handsome dividend, and won't earn you much in terms of capital gains.

It's a sound way to invest at least part of your portfolio. But you shouldn't be exposed entirely to equities, especially not specific stocks. You can buy an ETF that tracks the performance of a portfolio whose components are dividend paying stocks. The diversification lowers your risk.

If you get into buying ETFs, you can also use them to diversify into other investment classes like real estate, commodities, even private equity and hedge fund performance (though by proxy for the latter two options).

Including what are known as "alternative" investments can significantly reduce risk while maintaining respectable return expectations.

My first helpful post on /biz/. You're welcome.
