I went with ameritrade. Now to play with the practice account I suppose. Feel free to point me in a good direction for learning. I'm going to be starting with $500 and if I feel confident enough I can add a few hundred each month.

REALLY tempted to get into this stock cause it's weed and I love weed, and Gary Johnson (my fave politician) is the CEO. But it's a penny stock and people talk shit bout penny stocks. It's going down right now, I figure if it gets low enough I may pick some up.

I hear the Unions have done a real nice job at getting you guys like 4× the pay you actually deserve.

Is that why you want to play around with stocks? Flush with cash?

lol I'm not union. And there aren't even any unions in my field/industry that I'm aware of. Production Mig, RV's and Motorhomes. And I'm so not overpaid. Only making a modest living of 40k per year. And there are very few over paid welders be it union or not. I say that cause nearly every industry that uses welders needs more of them constantly. Paying more would help with the problem. I know welders who quit welding and took lower paying jobs cause they felt the downsides of the job were no longer worth it, but they'd come back for more pay.

But yeah 40k def not over paid. Wanting to play around with stocks because I hate debt and I want to save for school to further my skills. My goal is a six figure welding career.

I actually use TradeKing. I don't think they provide as much research as other brokers, but I'm fine with that since I do my own research. Trade fees are cheap and customer support is superb.

I will likely not invest in penny stocks whatsoever. Being I have no knowledge on how to really do all this, and everyone seems to say never do penny stocks I prob won't do it at all.

I only find it tempting cause I feel now would be a good time to invest in marijuana companies before they become giants like apple and what not. And one of the companies has a CEO that I like. I'm really tempted but it seems a bit foolish too.

three words: economics and finance

you will need to invest quite a few hours of research before you can jump into the market.

The bottom line is that most people who trade individual stocks get hosed. Start with fake money, or just buy index funds.

Heh, I actually started the process of applying for an account with them a couple of days ago, I'm moving away from Etrade and hoping to start trading forex and futures in addition to stocks. Just waiting for them to do a mini-deposit into my bank account so I can verify it and then use an ACH to fund it.

Just out of curiosity, I'll probably just start with a cash account but would like to switch it over to a margin account eventually, how much of a pain in the ass is it to do that?
