So I graduated in the spring with a BAH in political science (my intention all along was to go to law school), but now I have taken a keen interest in finance and economics, and I don't think I could stomach 3 years at lawschool

Would a 12 or 18month MA in economics help me get a job in finance? My math skills are basic, but I am very analytical.
What are some other post grad programs that would help me peruse a career in finance?

Better off getting a master's in Finance if you want to work in Finance.

The only high paying jobs you'll get with a degree in economics usually require a Ph.D.

I don't know if I'd qualify for finance though, most require a business degree.
Economics masters only require a BA

Finance is not for morons or anything, but relatively easy to pick up.

I was in your same position a few months ago. I applied for a research analyst position with a financial services firm. I'm learning a lot on financial statements, credit research, etc. Maybe you can take that route (I was a Political Science fag too). You just have to sell your analytical abilities and impress in the interview.

I'm still thinking of going to get my MA in International Relations. I always wanted to focus on the political economy of energy markets. So, we will see. I might ditch that and just go get my MBA though.

Good luck, OP.

Did you learn all about finance on the job? I'm from Canada and right now there is a surplus of university grads and many people are underemployed (like me), that's why I figure without a more specialised degree I don't stand a chance

Most of what I'm learning about finance is through trading
I have $30k invested, mostly in energy stocks. I took a hit when oil crashed, but today I'm up over $800 :)
