its a modern mill, that was put into an existing building from the 1980s, its one of the cleaner mills i ve seen from photos in a while. The older ones you see in use are more jammed with equipment, which usually makes it more of a challenge to get bigger equipment moved around or repaired if anything fails.
A lot of modern mill layouts are modular as well, with lots of space between segments for lifts and over head cranes to access.

that depends on the sector, for public vehicles i dont see electric taking over for a long while yet, their generally too expensive and are still plagued by problems that ICE vehicles dont.
Transport trucks (on and off highway) are likely heading towards diesel electric, i am fabricated to see how companies like Edison Motors does in that sector. That companies current focus is converting existing trucks used in logging to diesel electric, as its more efficient for the west coasts mountain terrain.
Long term electric will have a wide chunk of the market in the future, but wont ever totally take over due to limitations in battery tech and cost to scale issues.

What's everyone's opinions on house prices vs commodities over the next few years?

I've got family wanting to spend a lot of money on land this year but I think they should wait and buy a smaller property alongside metal and metal stocks instead, then upgrade to a larger property with the profits in a few years.

It's rural land that they're looking at in the region of 30 acres, which costs anywhere from half a million to a million depending on location. Just seems such a waste to spend that kind of money pre metals run, especially if property prices go down in a few years alongside metals going up but that's what I'm asking really.

>>58341672
That would be the ideal, though guns aren't actually hard to get in the UK, but limited in choice. It's a meme that firearms are totally illegal, family is already armed and so long as you live far enough from prying eyes all you need is a few rifles or even crossbows to put down any roaming niggers/gypsies and you'll be fine.

I don't think property prices have to go up or down much, commodity prices are much more volatile. If there's some kind of crash real estate could dip 30-40% even but commodities could crash very hard too. If there is no crash expect commodities to vastly outperform, housing hasn't even kept up with inflation in recent years. I think gold is probably going to outperform real estate either way since it's also somewhat of an outperformer during crashes, though gold is of course also sold off for currency during financial crises.

Thoughts on Trilogy Metals?

Trilogy and South32 own a 50:50 ownership of
ambler metals which has two projects (Arctic and Bornite) in the Ambler mining district.

From my understanding the problem now is delays with getting the 212 mile road constructed with permits. If it gets permitted, road built and project progresses ideally Trilogy metals would get bought out by a bigger company.

May throw some money in it. Or split it 50/50 between Trilogy and South32.

Thoughts?

Ummm... Yes, always has been. You could either buy/sell things for bullion, or you could deposit the bullion in a full reserve bank and receive banknotes issued by the private bank or write check against the deposit. Whichever you prefer. Obviously the banknotes make things easier.

You could. idk about the 99.9% pure part, but I guess it could be feasible since you can make sub 1gram gold bullion. Banknotes probably won't get diluted under a full reserve system unless the banker is trying to run a fractional reserve scheme.

Doing quite good and am looking forward to this project in Colorado. Glad you might get some relief for your damaged neck -- what an awful place to have an injury!
I know an elderly lady who has been good to my elderly parents and who has severe spinal stenosis in the vertebrae of her neck. She is at risk of becoming quadriplegic and is understandably scared. Poor woman. I have deep compassion for the elderly. It comes from taking so much care of my parents over the decades.

My coal crusade shall continue. I want us exporting more to Asia, American coal mine companies either setting up mines in Asia or offering expertise on their processes, and I want to do my part to save American thermal coal.
Steelmaking coal will of course be fine, but that represents only around 20% of coal mining jobs in the USA. Thermal is in need of help, big time. So I spread the good word of coal, talk about contracting with Asian countries to expand our exports, and keep banging the drum for US coal mining companies and coal services companies to go to Asia. I will never stop. This is the purpose of my life.
May we all achieve prosperity and happiness.

A country like the Philippines switching to gas isn't that big of a deal, since they are dependent on foreign imports anyway. The countries with large coal reserves prefer them, like China, India, and Indonesia.
Coal production and usage, globally, is hitting all time highs every year. In 2023, 8.5 billion tons of coal were mined and consumed, a record. And this year looks to set a new global record.
Countries like the Philippines are essentially globohomo colonies, unlike India, China, and Indonesia, which think for themselves. So it makes sense that they'd follow the Western example and move to gas at the behest of their monetary masters.

Yes and no. Currencies operated like this historically, prior to the gold standard, but you have a logistical problem of actually minting all those coins, and an economic problem of producing enough bullion to supply currency. Hence why Rome infamously debased their coins to the point where they were almost entirely lead or other cheap metals.
I don't think there's a good solution here. You have to trust the state to keep state issued currencies sound, which obviously we don't want to do, so the best option is for people to use hard assets as a store of value and only convert things to legal tender for the purpose of paying taxes

I've had it with globohomo. It insults my values in every way and I just can't stand it anymore. Say what you want about China and Russia, but they aren't cutting the dicks off of 10 year old children. They aren't threatening to wage wars all over the world for the past X number of decades.
I've been a Western Patriot, you might say, for a long time, believing Western Civilization has done more for the world than any other by a mile. And it indeed has. But I no longer think there's any saving the West.
The Western World is in its decadence, so deeply decadent that the patient is terminal.
I want out of the USA and out of the West in general. Hence my considering moving to Russia. I'd even go to Indonesia. They're investing very heavily in coal. And I've been to Indonesia for a little while and they were good people as far as I could see, though I was only in Jakarta. But the rural people are probably even better than the metropolitans of Jakarta.

The most painful thing about living in America, to me, is seeing the industry I love die. My life is coal and coal mining. It's almost equal to God in my eyes, and yes, I know that is wrong, but I cannot help it. Hell, on a practical level, coal is God's superior in my life -- is the true God -- in terms of how I live my life. I care more about being in a coal mine than about being in church. It breaks my heart to see coal so maligned by the leaders of this nation and those of Western states in general, and it breaks my heart to see ignorant people repeating the climate change bullshit and talking about how coal emissions will kill them and ruin the world.
I want to be somewhere where I don't have to be around these sources of heartbreak for me. Russia is such a place, because no doubt they'll be using relatively large quantities of coal for generations to come, even with their enormous gas supply that dwarfs the gas reserves of any other country. China is also such a place -- they build about two new coal-fired power stations per week.

I think I could be happier in such a country. I'll stick it out in America a while longer, but this country just isn't a good match for me and never has been for various reasons. It has a very sick society, a highly narcissistic population, and it's getting worse seemingly by the month.
I think a sociological collapse will come before any political or economic collapse of the United States because the people here despise each other. The Democrats and Republicans rejoice in each other's misfortunes and suffering -- it's pure hatred at this point. Deep down, there is no one Americans would more like to war with than each other. And the media have been fanning the flames of mutual enmity for decades. This country has an ugly future -- its best days are now decades in the past, and we are well on the path of decline.
So I will care for my parents in the final inning of my life and be ready to leave.

European culture was at its height, and more specifically here in Finland the market reached heights it has never been able to regain all thanks to Nokia. Eurodance could be heard all over the place, there was peace and prosperity, people were positive about the future and technological progress was visible in new consumer goods like game consoles, televisions, telephones and the widespread adoption of the Internet. Everything was going great and then the GFC came. It's been pretty much downhill ever since with the perversion of culture and darkening of economic outlook.

Europe in the late 90s might have been the happiest any place has been in world history. But sadly, that's long gone now, never to return for Europe. It's all downhill from here for the West.
The world will turn multipolar, the different power blocs will hate each other, and there won't be a sense of peace and prosperity, broadly shared, in our lifetimes.
It's very depressing. Even if an individual becomes wealthy -- and I am low-level wealthy -- there is no broader happiness in society to enjoy, no general good feeling and positivity. I'm sick of being surrounded by a morbid and dying culture and want out of this mess.

I dunno call me a starry-eyed optimist but I think things will eventually turn out alright. Probably not quite within a decade or two, but once things have calmed down somewhat I'm sure societies across the world can again regain a broader sense of positive shared experience even if the fruits of prosperity aren't shared the same way anymore. The times of globalism are gone for the foreseeable future but I think cultures and nations can find stability and happiness again. Every ending leads to another beginning. I only pray that between now and then as few people as possible have to suffer

I think in terms of civilizational rises and falls, and the West is now well into its downfall. It'll be a centuries' long process and will be quite unhappy throughout that whole period. Think of Rome in the third century; it took hundreds of more years to collapse in the West and then was followed by roving tribes of barbarians sacking towns, enslaving people, and conquering each other over and over. That's what we're in for over the next 500-1000 years.

There will indeed be shared good times and prosperity, hope, and optimism, but it will be in other parts of the world, like Southeast Asia, perhaps China and India, maybe even Russia down the lone -- Spengler was convinced that Russia was the next civilization to rise, much like Germanic cultures were around AD 1000.
It'll take quite a while, but they have potential.

The old anime images make me nostalgic too. I would give anything to go back in time 25-30 years, even 35 years. But that won't happen, so I have to make my future as good as it can be, and that means going to a place like Indonesia, which is determined to develop fast and see its standard of living rise. That gives people hope and optimism and good vibes.
When my parents pass away, I think America is a chapter of my life that is best put behind me. Just as my ancestors did, I wish to seek greener pastures and my pursuit of happiness elsewhere. We Germanics are filled with Wanderlust and a craving to adventure in new places.
I wish you the best, Fin-anon.
What is it you want for your future, if I may ask?

I somehow doubt that things will stay bad for so long. Look at Russia, the Soviet Union collapsed in the 90s but they weren't sacked and enslaved.
>What is it you want for your future, if I may ask?
couldn't have asked a harder question could you lol. I guess a family of my own for one, and to survive and prosper to the best of my ability. Though idk how well I'll be able to reach those goals if Finland becomes a frontline. As for a career path I think maybe a chemist, engineer or plumber but I admit I have been putting off studying in favor of making money at the warehouse so I can invest more. Hell maybe I'll be able to live off of investmenting alone, wouldn't mind that. Oh and I suppose I want to see the world, I've only ever been to other European countries and Turkey. I'm actually planning on visiting Kenya this summer with a friend. I'm somewhat open to becoming an expat too but truthfully I love it here, all my loved ones and everything I have is here.

It's not, sadly. Black lung became much more common in the mid 20th century with the advent of the continuous miner, where miners would work close to the face while the CM was tearing up coal. This continues with longwall mining, which became big around the 1980s.
Jets of water spray from the CM or longwall shear onto the coal face to suppress dust, and there is a lot of airflow at the face too, to get rid of harmful gases and dust. But black lung is still around. It's best to wear a respirator when working some positions.
Before continuous mining, coal miners used conventional mining methods, which consist of blasting (shooting, in miner terminology) the face, waiting for the dust to settle, and then collecting the chunks of coal. Black lung was far, far less common with that method of mining from the 1940s and earlier.

Being an outsider isn't so bad. I've always felt like an outsider right here in the US. I grew up poor, in foster care, and occasionally homeless in childhood. This was during the neoliberal era of Reagan and Clinton. I've never felt like I belong to the US and feel no obligation to be loyal to it. My brother was raped by a black man in a foster home and talked of this frequently in the days before he shot himself last year. Social Services covered it up -- just pulled us from that foster home very quickly and without explanation, for placement in another one. My brother was insistent it happened throughout his life -- he was six when anally raped -- and he never wanted to sue or make money, so he had no incentive to lie, plus that foster family did a lot of weird shit, like making my brothers and me run laps almost naked (in just underwear) around their backyard while they watched. I blame the government for my brother's death and would like to kill a whole lot of US government workers, and Colorado state government workers.
Why were we in foster care? Because my dad lost his job to outsourcing and we became homeless.
Deep down, I actually have a burning hatred of the United States and would like to see it nuked from coast to coast.
So I am an outsider and always have been. Eventually, being alone in the world doesn't bother you. You become self-sufficient and get your identity not through a group, but from within, like with your values -- and to the extent your identity comes from outside, it should come from a church or job or something like that. But being emotionally and existentially self-sufficient is the key.
I love American coal mining; it's among the best in the world. But America is turning its back on coal, and my loyalty is to coal first of all. It makes no sense, given all this, for me to remain in the USA.

Then there is the issue of women. I haven't had a woman in years and am fine with a monkish life devoted to coal. Women serve no purpose for me aside from helping take care of the home and, in the future, helping take care of me as I age. I have no need for sex or emotional companionship. But I would like a woman to be my caretaker and the caretaker of the places I live in the future. And American women don't fit the bill. They're much too mentally ill due to the damage feminism has done to them.
If I go to Indonesia, I can find a good women to take care of me and my home as I age in return for providing her with financial security. That sort of thing is normal there. As to Russia, I have no idea what Russia women are like. If anyone can clue me in, please do.
Long story short, when my parents pass -- the only people with whom I am close -- then I have no reason to be in the USA and many reasons to be somewhere else, some place where the coal still flows and I can find a homemaker and caretaker as I age. I don't mind being an outsider and being lonely. And if I married such a woman as I could find, say, in Indonesia, I'd be marrying into a family anyway, and would thereby acquire a social support network, with benefits and obligations. I would even use my money to ensure her family's wellbeing, as a good man should for his wife, if he is capable of it.
I would stay in America if this country had a change of heart about coal and just forego a woman. I almost became a monk in my youth anyway. But I won't think such a change of heart is coming. Trillions of dollars are now invested in "green energy" and natural gas. So the show is over for most coal production in the US; thermal makes up some 80% of the market. My future, then, naturally lies elsewhere.

I was talking with a highly placed manager at a met coal mine earlier today. He had some interesting things to say.
According to him, the USA only has a few decades' worth of very high quality metallurgical coal left. There are a few big longwall met coal mines in the US and many low-coal room and pillar met coal mines, which have much higher production costs per ton. The big areas for mining the best met coal are West Virginia, western Virginia, and northern Alabama. That's it, according to him. Some mines have 10-20 years left of reserves, others 30+. Then the USA runs out of high grade metallurgical coal.
I don't know if he's right, as I've heard that some coals in Colorado meet today's coking standards, which are much higher than in the past. And I tend to think we don't really know how much is underground due to a lack of exploration; just recently a huge trove of so called rare earths metals (which aren't really that rare) was found in Wyoming, and it might be the biggest deposit yet known in the world. The underground is a vast three-dimensional volume extending down two or three miles that would be realistically minable with today's technology and at the right price. Then there is that possibly 3-23 trillion tons of coal sitting under the shallow North Sea, and likely many other mineral deposits in shallow coastal water that are as yet completely unknown to us. So take those estimates for America's highest quality met coal reserves with a grain of salt.
Also, the Pittsburgh seam, which has been mined since the 1760s and still has enormous coal resources left (producing over 100 million tons per year of thermal coal nowadays), was once used for steelmaking coal. Lower-grade coals can be used to make steel, but the process of getting rid of the impurities would make the steel more expensive and industry-intensive to produce.
Basically, there is no steel apocalypse, though it is possible that the low hanging fruit principle applies and in this century the

Also, I should say that the founding principles and ideas of America are something I strongly admire, and I do not think the founders were conspiratorial crypto-Jews hatching some evil plot by breaking from the crown and designing a republic, as some on the political right now strongly believe.
The problem, however, is the principles and ideas, from the Enlightenment, upon which the United States was founded have largely been forgotten or else trampled underfoot by a rapacious government and oligarchy that wants to leave them behind so to increase their own power.

As to the source of this information and his claim that the USA only has maybe 40 years of top-grade coking coal left, he very much is a believer in his company and its mines as the very best mines for coking coal in the world. So he may be biased in his outlook, though he also mentioned he reads the industry reports put out by his company.
Still, that doesn't mean this company really knows all what's sitting underground, coal-wise, in the USA.

I just recently ordered about 100k USD in gold and silver.
Anyone with more knowledge than me about the precious metals markets have any idea how the fiat value is shaping up in the near and medium term for precious metals?

Strong dollar means it's more expensive for other countries to buy from the US, pushing demand down as they buy from other markets

I don't trust fiat and I have millions to spare now. 100k is not a big deal to me. Plus I have a very high paying job.
I know silver and gold have been doing well and I don't trust the dollar to hold its value. It's been inflating away for a long time, but especially in the past 3-4 years.
So I'm going in on gold and silver with the money from my cashed out stocks and willing be living off the fiat from my job.
I also prefer coins over rounds because if I move to another country, my coins have minimal monetary value, and that's what they're valued at by customs, not by the bullion value.

His bio and list of works gives me an idea, think I even heard of it before. Let's assume he's right, then even with S&B running the show doesn't mean that the power structures or the ethno-cultural sentiments on the other side don't exist.

Anyway, since I'm not part of the elite, I'm at the receiving end of their schemes and need to be careful. I learned that it's better to be among my own people and my own people being in power over their own affairs. Among my network are several who moved abroad to non-Western countries and it's often trouble and uncertainty. The professionals mostly returned, the entrepreneurs stay but know that it might all be temporary. I like a lot about the non-Western world, but I know that I don't belong, that only money or usefulness grants me a temporary welcome.

The producers worth caring about have all broken through resistance like a hot knife through butter so the bull is on and there's a long way up. Consolidation may be in order but that doesn't guarantee a strong pullback, look at gold producer Agnico Eagle for an example of how consolidation can happen on the way up. Production at all major US coal miners is down like 10-20% this year, and CONSOL, due to that bridge collapse, may be down around 30-40% until end of May.
Coal mines are closing, laying off, instituting hiring freezes. Coal-fired power plants are shutting down.
It's sad. Peabody is just being normal amid this climate.

Some speculate the previous 2011 high of 50 would be the next stop since there isn't much historical price action between 30 and 50.
Since silver was also around 50 in 1980, an inflation adjusted ath might be in the 150-200 region.
If we blast through 30 fast enough, we might skip 50 alltogether and then the sky's the limit. That's why we're all schitzos here.
