Your money is gone the moment you buy. You gave it to some guy for btc. He gave you btc and put your money in his pocket.
Later when you sell, you try to convince someone else to give their money to you.

Hey, this reminds me of when i sold licences to all my friends and family, for them to become authorized dealers of reverse osmosis water filters. For some reason people stopping buying them and now i have thousands worth of water filters in my basement until demand increases again. Is this basically how bitcoin works?
