I closed a bunch of positions today and went defensive. Probably a bit early to do so but rather safe than sorry. I'll be buying bonds and putting my money on high yield savings accounts. I also learned the hard way by wasting the last 3y. Nothing beats patience. And it's fun to do stock picking but I wouldn't buy more than a few because it's so hard to manage and follow so many companies. It's a waste of time. For everything else I would just buy a cheap index fund and never sell. Nothing beats an index fund when you factor in the compounding on unrealized gains. With stocks unless you choose really well, you'll have to sell at some point which triggers a tax event. An index fund just compounds forever all those gains, it'll always be diversified, etc, etc all the cliches become true.

I've stopped spending so much time on this and I'm more concerned with growing my earnings potential at the moment. I'll get more marginal returns from that

I suppose the proportion of green to red is the proportion of buy orders vs sell orders for the option. The 100% green would be: many people want to buy this option, but no one is selling it, so the current bid is too low. So my inference is that there is more selling for out of the money options (stock trades at $40), than buying. Inversely, There is more demand to purchase the "deep" in the money option at $30 so there is more bids? So basically there is a number of "bids" at $30 strike price that they are waiting for the call writer to cross the spread on?

but you have lost so much money falling for a yield trap and now because you are either bad at math or too lazy to even just do some quick napkin math, you just dont realize you are losing money. lets say you bought VZ 4 years ago for $60/share.

1000 shares @ $60 = $60000 investment

so you get .66c per share, and every fiscal quarter you make $660, or *4 you make $2640 in divvys in a year.

and now 4 years have gone by so you have made $2640 * 4 or $10,560 in divvys, sounds good

but the stock has plummeted in that time

now VZ is only worth only worth $40/share

so your 1000 shares @ $40/share now only has a market value of $40000, even if you include the $10,560 in divvys you have lost almost $10,000 of your initial investment.

you could have just bought MSFT in that same timeframe and forgot about the market and be up over 200% by now

You simply never sell. You just acooomulate forever until you die. Then your kids inherit the stock at a stepped up basis and pay zero tax. If you need liquidity you simply take a margin loan out from your broker (preferably IBKR since their rates are low).

Defer, defer, defer, then die. Never give Uncle Sam a penny more than you need to.

TA is finance astrology for the most part. People use it to predict future performance, but its supposed to be used to evaluate the companies performance and how the market moves in response to news. At best it can give you probabilities based off a few things.

Honestly the best predictive strategy is getting ahead of the news by a few months. Like if you knew LUNR was launching in Feb and bought last Dec, or you expect large increase in certain stocks due to certain conditions, like DWAC and election year.
