Why can't I stay on .4channel ?

It's coming from a french collector who just sold a bunch of roman era items, mainly amphoras, bowls, vials, terracotta lamps and such from nearby archeologic sites.
Idk how legal it was considering most these items still have archeological tags on them. But he says it was a collection he started to acquire decades ago, and probably that local museums and cultural affairs' offices can't store forever all the old crap they find, so it ends up in private hands.

That's a very good question, and i don't have the answer.
All i know for 100% sure is it's indeed pure silver.
And that i have few hints it's old, mainly because i did some close up with my jeweler loupe on the crevisse you can see on the bottom of the back (2nd pic), and there are what i believe to be concretions of dirt. I'll try to take some pics through the lens and report back tomorrow.

Otherwise i'm still trying to figure out a way to authentify it. My best "evidence" so far is the seller legitimacy, he worked for the DRAC (Direction régionale des affaires culturelles) for a while in this area, he already sold a lot of gallic/celtic artifacts from this region with no negative feedback, and after discussing with him i can say he's pretty knowledgeable on the matter and about the local archeological sites. If it's a larp it's pretty advanced at least.

But as for concrete evidences, i'd need the help of an expert, this is why my best security was to slurp this piece at below spot kek. At worst i've got a weird looking blob of silber for a good price, at best i have an unique artifact millenias old.

Hey Frogbro, I'm pretty sure your pottery picrel is a relatively modern tourist souvenir, it doesn't look like an authentic precolumbian piece so it's good that you exercised caution. Those glass vials you won look sweet though, the tall one was glued back together which is normal, and it looks quite ancient and typical of Roman vials from the first several centuries AD but there was lots of stylistic overlap between Roman, Byzantine, and early Islamic glass so I can't say for sure. The smaller green vial feels more like an Islamic or medieval piece but I honestly don't have a lot of experience with that kind of material. Maybe you can email me a link so I can see if everything the seller claimed checks out? I'm not 100% certain but strongly believe that it is genuine. The uneven surface of the side with the sneks is peculiar and similar to the texture of some cast items, but I think it's just a result of the coin having been struck with worn/damaged or rusty dies. The reverse side was clearly struck with very heavily worn dies, so technically the coin's condition is higher than an average person might assume at first glance but Cistophoric tetradrachms are pretty common so while 100€ is not a terrible price I wouldn't have recommended buying it, I got mine in higher grade and struck with better dies for less than that

That's what convinced me of the genuinety of the coin, we clearly see the silver being pushed away leaving a "trail" as when worn dies are being used. At least that's what i thought.

I never paid close attention to the coin, it was simply from scrolling down on antique listings i remember seeing this coin pop up more than once for "normal" prices, like around 45-70 bux, but never clicked on the listing to look at it closely. Maybe it even was advertised as reproduction, there are few sellers who aggressively advertise their (huge) catalogue of handmade, old repro coins they sell for between 50-100 a pop, like Coinantix. Problem is they only mention it in the description, so there is no way to know until you click in and read the fine prints or remember their name..
Maybe it's those Julius i've seen.

It's definitely a risk, but it's one I learned very early. I found a coin worth $400, population of 2. I went out and found a bunch more because I didn't understand the market. By the time I was done, the population was over 20 and the coin was selling for less than $100. Probably pissed a few people off. So I learned to hoard inventory. I don't do wash trading, but I probably could if I wanted to get the price back up where it started. I see that as unethical though.

But holding inventory off the market to keep prices from crashing? I totally do that. If I have the entire population of some coin in my collection, I'm not going to just dump it all on the market at once. It would crash the market temporarily, and I'd be the one eating the cost of the crash.

It's the softeners used to make the clear PVC flexible. Those softeners aren't used in records or pipes or house siding or modern archival grade plastic holders.

the chlorine is part of the problem, but the softeners are gummy and leak out of softened PVC over time. They can ruin pretty much anything. They even gum up empty coin holders. You get this semi-liquid green gunk built up in the pocket that softens plastics and destroys paper.
