YouTube and Rockauto. You can get a decent tool set from Home Depot for like 100 bucks with 3 drawers of tools and pretty everything you need to take car apart and put it back together. Harbor freight has tools for cheap but they don’t last.

Anyway but some tools and do they work yourself. 1800 for the mechanic means they are small jobs. You can fix yourself for less than 500 I’m sure of it. YouTube will guide you. Righty righty lefty loosey. Get to it anon. I have a 2005 model car with 190k miles I fix everything myself. Just takes time and effort. You’ll learn a lot along the way.

Never EVER keep any car (used or new) past it's warranty period if you're someone working for a paycheck without a sizable cushion of disposable income to throw at a money pit like a car. Everyone knows modern vehicles are gigantic pieces of shit and car ownership will absolutely keep you poor especially in the US where it's a soft requirement to own one along with being forced to participate in the bullshit insurance/state inspection racket. If you want something nice to keep as an asset or an heirloom in your family, don't use it as a daily, or have a project car where it's not your primary mode of transportation. Always buy Japanese (except Nissan) and avoid American or European brands like the plague.

You can buy most parts used at a pick and pull for dirt cheap and fix it yourself, even things that require shops theres, shops that you can rent out for $50 an hr.

You're probably buying some nigger mobiles like BMW, Mercedes, ford's, gmcs that fall apart after one year.
There's Toyota Tacomas that have reached 1m miles on the same engine.
Niggers in Africa are still driving and maintaining clapped out 80s Toyotas which even they can maintain and keep running with handmade improvised parts.

So you can easily burn like $14k even with a decent interest rate on the auto loan. You could repair your car 7 times for that money. There are certain ways of diagnosing things, your manual has basic maintenance steps to follow and you can watch YT videos on those specifically (probably for your exact car).

When actual issues come it it's usually not hard to figure out, just what's wrong, what can be the possible causes?
There is usually like 2 or 3 possible things that can be wrong, and simple ways of testing each of them. You just go one at a time, then fix whatever specific one is wrong when the test fails. If you really don't know plenty of forums you can post on and people will tell you things to check.

Just as a quick example for a car to start you need
>air
>fuel
>spark

If it's not starting you just check each of those to make sure the system is working as expected. It's a very standard/determinate set of pieces that applies to all engines so it's not hard to figure out which one is responsible and there are a bunch of ways of testing each of them.

The majority of repairs and maintenance are super easy to fix and fairly easy to identify.

But I assume most people here are atleast above average intelligence. Understanding how they work, and basic troubleshooting steps literally involves like watching a 20 minute youtube video.
Or like I said above, if you have an issue literally google it. There is probably like 2 things to try and you can probably fix it relatively quickly. Also for people here who are techy spergs actually dealing with and getting a basic understanding of more physical engineering stuff is probably just very psychologically healthy and makes you less of a weirdo internet person.
