In my country, unrealized capital gains of non-dividend paying etfs are taxed. Even though it's only a small percentage and it getting offset against the capital gains tax on the final sale, it STILL feels worse than getting your dividends taxed. Personally, if I'm buying a stock/etf that pays dividends, I'll choose one that has it's domicile in another country. That way, while I'm still paying taxes, my country will only get half of what they would get normally get. I'd rather give another country free money than pay taxes here.
