OP here, for context some libcuck coffee shop near me had a drag queen story time and i left a review calling them groomers.
They said in a reply that they would sue me if I didn't take down the review, and I thought it was an empty threat.
Well I got served court documents today for defamation. Apparently anything that's a "lie" is legally defamation?? And (((they))) determine the truth??

My friend got sued a few years ago for leaving a bad review on a business. It was a 2-3 year thing that eventually his insurance just paid out for him and he had to write an apology to the owner. Different circumstances because the guy isn't poor and his insurance covered it for him but at least accept that this stuff does happen lol

My brother is an attorney so let me offer a little advice.

For starters their case is ridiculous. For them to have a monetary claim against you they have to PROVE to a courtroom that your comment caused them to lose money, which is nearly impossible. So 99% the case is going to get thrown out on day one.

You don't have to have a lawyer but it does not make you look good to not have one. Did they get one? It's possible they just sued you in small claims.

Lawyer or no, just go to court on the date, explain the situation and it will get thrown out.

There is another possibility, assuming your case isn't some tarp, find a conservative lawyer in the area and see if he will take the case for the publicity. That's very possible since I could see this case getting state news, and possibly even national.

The way game works is this...You can sue anyone for pretty much anything. If they play the game right they can shred you financially because of their relative worth. If they play it wrong, they'll set themselves up for a counter lawsuit where you can force them pay your attorney fees. Most of them will not play it wrong. So if you have $10,000 to your name and I have $1,000,000 to mine a $300/billable hour attorney is nothing to me. To you, it is pain. So I can use the legal system to essentially put your in a headlock and force you to submit. This is why really savvy wealthy people are skittish around litigious people, especially wealthy litigious people. No one wants to really play that game because it becomes a massively wealth destroying pissing contest. You are in the cross hairs and they have forced your hand. You either take down the review or start looking for an attorney of your own.
