If you are in a position where you need to abandon your home and everything you can't carry on your back and flee into the night with no place to go, buddy you are not going to live long enough to spend your PMs anyway. Fortunately, that is mostly just a negative fantasy people play out in their minds to add a sense of adventure to their dull lives.

Yes, blood will run in the streets. But it won't last long and it won't be the blood of people who have secured themselves a little bit with friends, PMs, guns, and a safe place to hunker down.

The whole "bug out" idea is suicide unless you have already secured a place to bug out to. And if that's you, then you stash some of your silver in your bug out cottage. Problem solved.

Not very fun fact: Don Quixote cost 293 and a half maravedis, or one piece of eight and some change in 1605, an ocho and 20 maravedis with seller markup. That's 5.3 chickens or 4 and half dozen eggs. Roughly the silver content found in early US currency after they started competing with Mexico.

Someone else can do a better conversion.

(Reposting in the new thread so someone would actually see it)
About the picture, I've recently retrieved my book about old coinage from an obscure corner of my bookshelf and checked the price of "trofa" (no idea how to translate it), that is, the amount of food one adult man needs to survive a day on.
In the book it was calculated as the price of 3 kg of grain and 1/2 kg of meat (1 kg = slightly over 2 pounds). In another old book I found out that you can get 70 kg of flour from 100 kg of grain, 3kg is therefore 2.1 kg of flour.
In my country, trofa calculated like so would cost 5 g of silver (1oz = 31.1g)
In medieval England, for comparison, it would cost 2,5g (13th century), 3g (14th), or 1g (15th) of silver. In the next three centuries, it cost about 2g.

Long story short, it seems that the supply of food has risen faster than the supply of non-prudish women. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences.

Also, I found this neat article about trofas, unfortunately in Polish.

The logic behind these projected returns is sound and that's why EVERYBODY echoes this sentiment. Unfortunately logic or supply and demand will not dictate silver prices in the future. another one I've seen sell like crazy is smelted e-scrap. Motherboards and RAM and such. Probably very low gold content, but for some reason people buy the shit out of those trash bars. Not sure if you can find that much e-scrap though.

cheapest way to refine is an electric cell, but that's like cooking meth in your house. The fumes kill people and destroy buildings and everything in them.

wet refining has the exact same dangers but costs a lot more.

fire refining copper and silver isn't really a thing because both oxidize readily in the furnace and don't really separate when melted.

gold and copper on the other hand is possible because the copper is so much lighter than gold it floats to the top of the melt, and then it can be oxidized while gold doesn't oxidize as easily.

Gold's highest value is as a medium of exchange. By itself it doesn't get you anywhere. It's purpose (when remonetized) is to facilitate the trade in goods and services. If your country is not producing any goods or services, no amount of gold will help. It will just drain away to buy goods other people are producing. That's why it doesn't matter much how much gold a country has. Yes, it will allow them to issue some gold-backed currency. But if their economy is shit gold will not save them. And the American economy is shit right now.

not a user of 3d printers, but generally plastics will leave a residue that will fuck with the cast even at extremely high temps. My guess is either special material, or using plastic to make a 2 part mold and then either molding wax for a one piece lost wax, or casting the 2 part and cleaning it up in the metal.

I'm not checking his stuff, but if he's doing multiples he's using a 2 part mold instead of strict lost wax one time casts. Though he could use a 2 part mold to make multiple wax positives and then cast each one individually using lost wax.

both are reliable and common methods, and someone that casts metal should know both types of work.

>> No.57129814

>>57129783
if a 2 part mold won't work on the object, you about have to produce multiple wax positives. In that case the printer would need to be extruding wax or some similar substance that basically evaporates in very high heat with little or no residue.

such materials surely exist, but again I'm no expert on 3d printers. The usual material wouldn't likely work because char and vapors are going to fuck with the cast.

At least not early on, they will fight on to get the neetbux back, and the gov will probably cave in if the situation go out of control. If they don't, then migrants will eventually loot what they need for to survive. Truth is there are no jobs here, and being your own boss is impossible unless you spend half your day buried under regulations and paperwork.. so we don't give them any other alternative.

America will be able to bounce back as a major industrial/manufacturing/agricultural hub. The gold will certainly help (if it is there).
There is also a conspiracy theory that massive amounts of gold was discovered in the southwest which is what prompted a central bank takeover along with the federal government declaring huge swathes of land. It is believed there could be massive mineral deposits available being held back once the rest of the world is depleted.

we talking victorio? I get confused about my schizo treasure stories.

as to the US holding back mineral reserves, I can guaranfuckingtee it. My town sits on hundreds of millions of tons of silver. Not a conspiracy, it's drilled and mapped and known. It's not being mined, we hold it until other places run out and the price rises.

and we're not the only place. I know of at least 4 others.

About our castles, they indeed are cheap but there is a trap : they are considered "patrimoine historique", meaning it's the gubment who decide what you can do and how you should do it. For everything.
Wanna change the tiles? You now have to pick government-selected tiles to respect historic realism, x4 the normal price and use a government-agreed company to put them in place.
Wanna paint the shutters white? They decide what gradiant of white, what kind of paint, etc..
It's like this for everything, so basically you aren't really the owner, you are just restoring stuff for a government too broke to do it themselves. Even you probably don't have the pockets deep enough for this level of shenanigans, believe me.

A XIXth c. manor is the comfy alternative, more freedom to do stuff your own way.

It’s because its a skinner box. It’s being poked and prodded by agencies to shift opinion one way or another, or to attempt to have movements characterize themselves a certain way.
The easiest way to do this is to take a brief catchphrase that generally agrees with the majority sentiment of the board. Then tweak it ever so slightly, shill it out fast. Provide consensus through top of the thread (you) Dog-piling. FPBP is an artifact of that the leash that can pull at a reader of our board. That is, if a response even slightly agrees and it is first, in a thread created with the intention of the response to that post being highlighted its like a little jingle bell. And boom you just produce mass consensus of the message of that reply to the post.

>> No.57134464

Its a sociological phenomenon first, and a glownigger tool second. So it could be organic. Purity tests, affirmation of belief, coded language of board culture all play a huge role in the community building aspect of this website. But of course, its easily subverted when you notice patterns of behavior and exploit them to your end.
consensus breaking and consensus building.
They can be done with a popularity contest within the number of replies a post receives be it negative or positive. Post dogpiling also directs the flow of the conversation towards that topic. Mass replying can disrupt any conversation that you dont want being had. It’s the structure of this website too, that enables the manipulation. Maybe its the eventual outcome of that structure. I think, on a very practical level that parallels trends on other boards, the topic is 1. slow, 2. exclusive (ie no poorfags can participate but mobile thirdies can, it's an egalitarianism of a certain 'elite' who is interested and capable of engaging) and 3. completely counter to the mainstream trends. This alone is enough to account for a fair amount of targeted, malicious shitposting before you bring lone ranger turboautist trolls into account. Then you have forces that emulate and manipulate all that.

The now defunct /omg/ was full of legitimate mystics with graduate degrees and connections to all sorts of...organizations, governmental or otherwise. .1% of the population as far as being clever and what they were interested in. So based on that, hyperintelligent druggies with weird interests and politically noneuclidean views (holy shit there were also a bunch of marxists, but not the usual flavor).

Generals have been dying left and right, but the ones that stay around tend to be utterly impenetrable and bore the fuck out of anyone not genuinely interested. /tea/ does alright but gets the occasional troll. I think what you're looking for is a little different, so I'll say that side discussion or reasons for partaking in the hobby or interest are often what is contentious, as well as the fruits of it.

thank you everyone for the clarification. We called them
>Trailer park trash
but vernaculars change through the decades. Question: I am going to start stacking standard silver 1oz bullion. I want to turn this into a legit business; standard 1oz bullion/round shouldn't go for more than $1.50 over spot. but I would like to negotiate spot difference through bulk buying. Online isn't feasible; shipping costs/logistics. I was thinking of going to pawn shops/local coin dealers and negotiating. Should I wait though? Current spot is pretty high on the ytd average. I have 1k for this venture. I have set up a website for when I wait for inflation and then use the standards for gold and other coinage resales. As well as starting that smelt/mint operation. One stop shop. I will keep you all updated on the ventures. Here is what I have so far on the math.

Your margin on a marketplace is going to be so fucking low, you’ll be shipping $1-$3 dollars of profit an order. As for operating an independent website.
Where are your customers going to come from?
The one thing that must work is heavily overpricing items and hoping for a bite. Despite most bob beliefs, most consumers are actually aware of the market price for things, so youve just shrunk your buying pool. tough shit.

I've currently got about 250 oz of silver, about half of which are commemorative coins rather than bullion. Up until about last year I was buying my coins from the Royal Mint at a hefty premium, for instance pic related for £65 for about £8 of silver. I now mostly buy from Chards or eBay for spot or slightly above.

Other than a few coins I like, is it worth selling commemorative coins on eBay or to a dealer to make my money back and then re-invest in spot price silver? According to eBay prices I'd probably break even, but if it comes to selling them at silver content value only I'd make a hefty loss.

I don't have a lot of money (uni student), but I've decided to invest about $500 into metal. Is this a good idea? The state of my treasure chest is as follows:
5 mercury dimes - $9.50
3 Kennedy half-dollars - $30.00
A 1 oz silver bar - $28.00

I decided to check out my LCS for the first time while buying Christmas presents. Unfortunately, the cashier was very cute and my age (maybe a year or two older), so I returned a few days later to buy the little stack mentioned above. However, on this visit, the cashier said "Oh, you're back again" in what I believe was a playful tone. I've become bewitched and must purchase more from her. Financially speaking, will precious (metal) women like her be interested in a broke lad?

Wasn't until I started looking into things early this year did I realise I was massively over-paying. Biggest loss is pic related, 50z silver for £487.50. I'd probably be able to break even if I sold to a collector though, or make a small profit.

>>57135717
Probably not worth the effort. I've got at least 100 coins and having to make an advert for each one, deal with potential scammers, shipping them all, photographing them all and worrying for 6 months about someone wanting to return them. And selling to a shop would just be a massive loss.

Probably best to just hold onto them and keep stacking at spot.

The gold rush is back — and now at a big-box store near you
Amid global instability, gold prices are soaring and some retailers are cashing in

Dec 30, 2023

Warehouse stores in Canada aren't just selling large quantities of toilet paper these days — gold bars and coins and other precious metals are moving out of the realm of banking and jewellers and into their aisles.

With gold hitting record-high prices in recent weeks, the metal's popularity has been reflected at retailers, too.

According to Costco's chief financial officer, Richard Galanti, the company "sold over $100 million [US] of gold" during a recent 12-week period. Walmart has also started selling gold, silver and platinum bars online to U.S. consumers.

The rest of the article is pretty much Canadian government propaganda spin that its going up because browns are buying it for "cultural reasons".

I have ALWAYS been a tubby fuck even when I was lifting hard. I want to do the things skinny people can do like not incessantly sweat or squat deeply or do pull ups without shitting out my balls.

Fitness is key and I completely agree. Again, the autism is so strong that it’s gotta be one or the other. I can’t have smokes after a run or I’ll be back to booze quick.
