How is a cryptocurrency supposed to be used for payments when the TPS is so slow? Even the fastest chains like AVAX only have 4000 or so TPS. That's still too slow if everyone's gonna be paying with it.

pic unrelated

The undisputed fastest chain is Hedera which is more than capable.

How many TPS is necessary for a chain to be reasonably used by everyone, say, when checking out groceries?

Is that slow to you? Visa can only do 10k TPS and is 100% centralized

I had no idea. It had never occurred to me that I should probably google "visa transactions per second"

Sorry for the FUDish thread

its not about TPS its about Time to Finality (TTF), Avalanche is the fastest Chain (has Sub Second finality) and thanks to Subnets it can scale.

Cope
tps matters
Ttf is irrelevant if you have a leader based system
Ttf is irrelevant if you’ve had a double spend (avax has had 7)
>>56972775
Infinite. Which Hedera is capable of. Limited only by bandwidth, the literal maximum speed of data transmission.

>tps matters
Time to Finality actually matters more.
>Ttf is irrelevant if you have a leader based system
Avalanche is leaderless. look up how the Avalanche consensus works.
>you’ve had a double spend (avax has had 7)
Avalanche never had a double spend, you are probably refering to the double mint which was a Bug that was solved 3 years ago and didnt lead to any lost funds.
It also didnt stop Avalanche from gaining Mainstream Adoption since (JPM, Citi, Deloitte, Fidelity, KKR etc. are using Avalanche)

Nice try cuck. Avax had seven double spends in which they hardcoded the correct block data to the chain to fix their mistake. Also, remember when they were suing every project like fags? LOL

> Avax had seven double spends in which they hardcoded the correct block data to the chain to fix their mistake
wrong, wrong on multiple levels actually. a block was minted 7 times due to a race-condition bug during a cross-chain transfer. the minted duplicate blocks were immediately seen as invalid by validators which caused the c-chain to halt.

the race-condition bug was patched out and the duplicate blocks were left alone since it was such a small amount of AVAX duplicated that it wasn't worth bothering to hardfork the blocks out of the chain. Instead, a validator update gets pushed out to ignore checking those 7 duplicate blocks during validation. What most refer to as a 'soft-fork'

So a single 7x block mint, not a doublespend and a soft-fork, not a hardfork. again, wrong on every point.

Total bullshit. Plus Visa only handles larger and a very small portion of global daily transactions. A crypto needs minimum 100K TPS and Vitalik talked before about ETH having 1 million ETH TPS onchain, but looks like he has given it up.
