Even if you concede that Americans are more wealthy than Europeans (some are many aren't) it still makes no sense to compare wages in dollar terms without adjusting for the cost of food, shelter and transportation.

That's a big one, yes. Rents are cheaper overall too. Gas is more expensive but Americans have to drive more for various reasons. Food used to be cheaper in the US but I'm unsure if that's still the case.

I used to want to emigrate to America but not anymore. US cost of living is not remotely higher lmao. Their total tax burden tends to be slightly lower than european. Then pricing of goods if often 1:1. Europe doesn't produce a lot so has to pay import on almost everything. Then essential things like fuel and housing are MUCH more expensive in Europe than the US.
