It's coming on 4 years now. I was hired in November 2019 and had roughly 3 months of regular corporate office work before being sent home to WFH ever since.
I have lost all motivation and desire. In my 3.5 years as a code monkey I have not once worked on an actual, productive, meaningful project.
And I'm not talking "insurance sales" meaningful. I would actually consider that VERY meaningful as opposed to what I am doing.
I worked in "R&D" for 2 major corporations, no code I "worked" on has ever been seen or used by another person or was even deployed anywhere. Every single thing was an absolute disaster with no planning, no requirements, no business case, no users, nothing. Pipe dreams of random managers who just left to do other things in the carnival model once people started figuring out their BS.

I don't care anymore. I haven't done any actual work in months. I clock in, jiggle my mouse (not that anyone cares), and do whatever. Shitpost, watch a show, go for a walk.
Maybe it's a desperate cry for meaning or something. I don't actually enjoy my life even though I should. I have massive amounts of free time but no desire to fill it with anything. This clown economy has ruined me. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

I did very little work during today and Monday. I've been marginalised, given few resources, and put to work on an area no one else really cares about.

I had a large junk food bank nge yesterday after work, which I hopefully won't repeat.

My job is so boring and pointless. The level of responsibility is pitiful compared to other jobs with the same description in the company.

I have a few interviews for two likely better jobs but they come with either a small paycut and potentially some in office work, or the need to go fully in office and move cities, therefore reducing my ability to save.

Also realistically you need to work to create meaning outside of your job. If all you do is your job, and your job feels meaningless, you will feel meaningless. Use your time during work to find other sources of income. Become overemployed if you have to. We are in clown world now. Nothing matters.

Yeah when I was WFH making six figs doing nothing but reading someone else's weather forecast to my boss' boss' boss' boss I felt the same way. The worst part is I knew I had all this free time and I could have been working on other projects or hustles, but because I was technically supposed to be working I always felt guilty and couldn't find the motivation. So I wound up playing a LOT of skyrim and minecraft and read a LOT of light novels and got back into lifting (the only productive thing I did that year+).

Since I quit to become a travel NEET I've felt much better about my life even though I no longer have that crazy good income. I'm perfectly content having no demands on my time and living frugally.

I could have put another $100k into bitcoin when it was sub $20k, but that's literally it. I was massively burned out, in a mental breakdown sort of way, when I finally managed to quit (scamdemic nonsense didn't help either). Since then I've destressed, reconnected with family, done a ton of travel, and I even feel ready to start dating again (now that I stopped hating myself so much).

>>56660763
I was an officer in the US Navy. I managed to screw up my reputation (due to burnout and handling stress poorly) so I was going to be kicked out within 3 more years anyway, but by the time I quit I was literally sending emails asking how to speed up my resignation process anyway possible. In civilian terms I was a project manager at the end (and the project itself was FUBAR).

I work from home 2-3 times a week, it's pretty comfy. But often I wish I had worked a normal office job so I could appreciate it more. I went straight from retail pleb in University to professional small business after graduating. I've never known the office life, the HR roasties, the weird bosses, the work functions. I actually feel like I'm missing out on part of adulthood, just like I never lived in rez or anything in University. Often my friends talk about their co-workers, projects, internal politics, and I have no idea how to relate. My life is, I went in, I had confidential interactions with clients, and I went home.

Use this.
>Mechanical, no software to detect
>Plugs into nothing, no hardware to detect. No USB.
>Runs on a battery
You can probably DIY a similar solution but the bottom line is don't use software or something that plugs into the machine. Your IT department will 100% find software. You can probably bullshit a reason why you aren't on the computer 100% of the day but if they find you using software like that it's 100% terminable.

I just told my boss I was working offline or going to appointments, never bothered with mouse jiggling. Since I never missed a deliverable, it was never a problem. Anyway even if they don't like you showing up as inactive or away, they still have to give you a warning first and you can file a complaint with HR for harassment when they do because you WERE working, even if some automated system didn't detect you typing for 5 seconds.

The paranoia and self-monitoring is the worst part of that shit. If you can't learn to let it go, I recommend becoming a NEET. A paycheck just isn't worth that kind of anxiety and stress from living in a panopticon.
