I pay $7200 a year on rent. This covers my landlords property tax bill only. It's a duplex and they live in the other apartment.

29, same exact situation. I think Im just going to rent for the forseeable future until I either land a good enough job or my endeavors pan out. I figure if I can find a very low key and frankly undesirable area to rent outside of a major city while working a decent job or remote pay, I'll be satisfied. I literally just want to blast music, fuck sluts, make stuff, and live on my own. No need to stress about a mortgage, utilities, neighbors/neighborhood problems etc. when I'm a single 29 yo guy with no prospects. Just hustle and salt money away while you rent.

if you've decided where you're going to be for the foreseeable future and you're handy enough or don't mind paying for home related repairs then buy. otherwise rent. most home owners move out of their first house around the 5-10 year mark but if you're skipping around between overpriced apartments in that amount of time anyway you might as well build some equity.

boomer here
this costs way more than renting even if you have a paid off car (or however you plan to get around) and travel with just a duffel/suitcase/backpack
motels all over the country have been doing weekly/monthly programs for years now basically to meet the growing demand of people who are technically transients/homeless and would otherwise be in shelters or on the street

you'll spend less on a livable van, but both would be terrible financial decisions

no I mean travel around (the world) in cheap hotels country to country or whatever wherever pleases you
for example we stayed in a hotel suite in albania a few months ago for the equivalent of $30 a week - had a living room and a kitchen and proper internet etc etc
sure in the west this is impossible
we're in asia now, hopping around cheap af
