Goddamn is crypto a nightmare. Every time I take a look at the catalog I’m reminded of being 19 and refreshing blockfolio, dumping my checks into scams, losing sleep over price alerts, and walking out after two chaotic years with 30k$ and never looking back.

Now I wake up, play with my silver, and scroll /pmg/ it’s that fucking easy.

That's a p80 and a class ring. You have the option to order them from a catalog when you get a diploma from most universities. You can find them at estate sales and pawn shops quite often as, unless you went to that school or inherited it, it's a kinda weird thing to wear. I don't buy gold rings or chains myself because I'm white.

>> No.56557753

And in times of regular boom and bum markets you can balance the two asset classes against each other to buy/sell anti cyclic.
If stocks are down and gold is up, sell gold, buy stocks. If stocks are up and gold down, sell stocks, buy gold.
Just set a ratio (say 10% gold, 10% silver, 80% stocks) and once every 6 month or year you reset the ratio. The larger the times between the resets, the better.
In the beginning, when the numbers are small, you can get back to your ratio just by spending fresh money out of your pay checks, but eventually the numbers get larger and you have to sell/buy to reset the ratios.

Anyway, nothing wrong with a class ring if you're proud of your alma mater. It would be odd to wear one from a school you didn't attend, particularly if you bumped into someone from that school though. I have a friend who wore his grandpa's Mason ring but stopped after old dudes kept asking him the Mason code phrases and he had to explain it was his grandfather's ring and that he wasn't a member of any lodge lol.

slabs don't add anything to the price of a coin unless it's a mid-grade coin and the person getting it graded submits it over and over until they get the higher grade.

They just guarantee authenticity and grade. So they're a bit easier to sell, but the price is the same for a slabbed coin and a raw one. The person getting the coin slabbed eats the cost of grading, but generally slabs are purchased by people with subscriptions to the grading service, and the price is usually the cost of postage. It's extremely cheap to get a coin slabbed if you do say 3000 of them per year or whatever. Basically free.

some people might pay more for a slabbed coin, but others might pay less. They're not universally popular as lots of collectors don't really trust the grades given, and lots of collectors like to hold the raw coin and look at it without a bunch of plastic in the way.

Fake slabs exist, but they're not nearly as sophisticated as fake coins. Fake coins generally don't get slabbed by legit grading companies, they know fakes. So the average newb might get fooled into buying a fake coin in a fake slab, but dealers and experienced collectors aren't likely to be fooled.

If someone's charging a lot more than book value for slabs, just walk away. Except in MS grades, they don't add anything to the value. And even in MS grades they only add value in setting the grade, and possibly inflating it.

>yet another auction vanishing 30mn before the end
To hell with the stealth mode. From now on i'll always place at least 1 bid on any auction i really want instead of leaving it bidless. It might draw some unwanted attention, but it's still better than seeing it disappear before your eyes at the last moment.
Hey Frenchbro, I snipe and flip for fun and money, here's what I do.

I search for deals without signing in. I scan the list of sales, but I NEVER OPEN ANY I'M INTERESTED IN. Just eyeball the list. If something interests me, I sign into my account, open JUST THAT ONE sale page, and bid. Then I walk away. Clear cookies. Don't ever look at another sale page with a browser you used to look at the one you want. Right? If you want something else at that same time, make a new account and use it to buy.

all this song and dance means what you look at won't show up in other people's feeds under "people who looked at this also looked at that."

in my experience this reduces attention to the item I want. But you're right, always place a bid if you really want a thing, so the seller can't cancel the sale. If you're worried about getting sniped, go place a higher bid at the last minute.

Man, I've never seen FUD to the extent that has been happening in /pmg/ threads, lately.
Nobody is going to just sit in threads all day, posting hundreds of posts about how good metals are as an investment, getting into simultaneous arguments with people and making pathetic attempts at memes all day for weeks on end, just out of the goodness of their hearts, to try and help people make a good investment.
There is definitely money behind the FUD shills, they have been employed by coin dealers who want people buying silver, in particular.
They've even started making multiple threads to disrupt /pmg/ cos they couldn't use arguments and were unable to make the threads unbearable (despite a lot of effort on their part).
The only conclusion that can be drawn is that we are over the target.

I have one particular dealer that sells tokens and medals under the US Coins category. He sells thousands of them per year and they always go dirt cheap. I've written him and told him why his stuff sells so cheap, but he ignored my message. So I just buy from him over and over again and flip his stuff for a 2-3x in the proper category. Damn, my mistake for not paying more attention to it then. But it make sense if you follow the trail of another slurper you get more opportunities at finding the good deals. I'll try to pay more attention to this section from now on.

>The other half comes from scanning alternate spellings, bad keywords, and bad photos.
I too try to do this, because it paid off handsomely in few occasions, but it can be very time consuming. Thing is, i'm pretty sure i'm not doing it the optimal way so i easily lose my time. I'm definitely not the smartest of the bunch here, but it's not that easy to put yourself in the mental shoes of complete 'tards.
For example, a word i scan regularly is "poisson", hallmark in french is spelled "poinçoin", but some low IQ don't know this word and only heard it vocally, and it sound a bit like "poisson" ("fish" in french), so they write fish in lieu of hallmarks.

I wont dare asking you the alternate spellings you are looking for to not step on your toes, and it would be pointless to me since i look for it in another language, but do you have general tips?

yes, when I'm trolling /pmg/ I am also usually scanning ebay at the same time. I search it daily, and I spend more time searching ebay than I do at my real job.

I think you can do a "save this search" and set up email notifications if something in your search shows up, but I'm not tech savvy enough to do that. And to me a lot of the fun is the hunt.

For me the biggest spelling thing is "CO" or "COLO" instead of "Colorado." I'm specifically hunting tokens from colorado, and most of my competition searches "Colorado" while ignoring abbreviations. And the abbreviations don't show up in the search.

others are simple stuff like misspelling a town name. I collect Leadville tokens so I search stuff like "leadvile" and "leedville" and whatnot. Or keywords nobody uses like "lake" which is the name of my county. Also most of the tokens I flip have catalog numbers, so I'll search mentions of the catalog. In my case the catalog is "Pritchard," so I search that and sometimes find badly listed tokens I want.

none of that applies specifically to what you buy, but I have no doubt people are listing stuff wrong there too.

That's very interesting, and just like you i love hunting on ebay, especially for old coins. I actually set up an email alarm, but your mailbox end up being flooded quite rapidly

You see, for the past 5 years i owned an online shop dealing MTG cards, i was doing great at first, but then (((Hasbro))) went absolutely full retard with the game and are destroying it at lightning speed, mainly by vampirizing the secondary market via reprints to oblivion, on top of constant powercreep and new editions releases every two weeks.. It became truly unsufferable after the CEO was promised a $50M bonus if he could double the earnings from WizCo during his mandate, and he's hellbent on squeezing every penny out of the game before he leaves in late 2024, consequences be damned.

So i'm trying to look for a way out, and i'm strongly considering ebay flipping. But old silver scrap and old coins alone wont do it.
Other avenues i've seen stuff sold way cheaper than their real value :
>rare designer ceramics (must be full of fakes tho?)
>enamel plates (old advertisement, but also houses' n°, street names...)
I was surprised by how expensive enamel signs/panels became! And they shouldn't be too hard to find in the wild.
>Napoleon related stuff
There seems to be a strong interest to anything vintage related to him, especially if it was made during his reign. The incoming Ridley Scott movie probably explain this spike in demand a bit, i should focus on it this month.
>regulation-dodging exotic "ivory"
By that i mean pendants, old jewels and the like made out of lion teeth, tiger claws, sea lions' tusks,...
I think the potential for cheapies is pretty strong here because most sellers struggle to put it in the correct category since ivory is forbidden, it ends up in bones/nature/ornaments/asiatic art...

It's just few ideas from the top of my mind, but it could be pretty handy if /pmg/ came up with a list of categories where deals can easily be made on ebay.

Same fren, though it happened several times before I figured out what I was doing wrong. One memorable fail was when some zoomer in New York listed a huge lot of silverware very poorly, they didn't mention sterling or even silverplate anywhere and there were no pics of the hallmarks, but in spite of the shit blurry images I recognized 2 different full sets in obscure antique sterling flatware patterns comprising the majority of the huge pile, I counted/extrapolated ~180 pieces of good sterling out of about 250 pieces. No bidding activity or interest/discovery by others shown via http://www.watchcount.com for days so I was getting excited, but in that excitement I overdosed on browser cookies and triggered its promotion via the "people who..." mechanism and overnight 4 other bidders had mysteriously found it, I was livid. It's not feasible to navigate the issue quite the same way as you because one needs to evaluate the pictures of numerous listings before a hidden gem is discovered, but staying logged out and not adding the best things to your watch list or unnecessarily revisiting the auction page, using multiple browsers and clearing cookies has helped.

I'm taking off for a bit but wanted to drop one bit of info.

I've flipped lots of items on ebay over the years, and most of it didn't make a lot of money. Barely worth the time. I did victorian ephemera, books, antique books, stamps, postcards, postal history, yugioh, game consoles and games, dvd and bluray, jewelry, bullion, bottles, rare coins.

the problem I had in every case was too much competition for the auctions. I found my niche in trade tokens and medals from a single state because there's almost no interest on either the buying or selling side, so basically no competition on the auctions. But there's enough interest to sell stuff as a BIN if you don't mind waiting a while.

so I went very specific on my niche, and chose a sector where it's very easy to do a 2x just by relisting, and fairly often returns a 5-10x. Also it's something I personally collect so I have values and prior sales memorized. And I keep a database of previous sales, though most of that info is available online from several sites.

so my advice would be very narrow niche and scope where you can consistently buy low and resell high enough to pay for your time. Or something you love. Or both.

getting ivory past the machine might be difficult. I have some, but if I was going to sell it I don't think I'd try it on US ebay.

This is true for absolutely everything on earth tho frogbro, if you're knowledgeable, discerning and have a good understanding of the different markets you can sniff out deals or develop effective slurp strategies for every category. I haven't been as active lately but had gotten very good at mining eBay for good deals on ancient antiquities, many sellers are just detectorists or high volume flippers who don't have deep specialized knowledge of everything the sell so they'll sometimes misidentify special rare items as lower value pleb-tier junk. Some types of good artifacts are more frequently misidentified as the same class of lower value item and can then be targeted for systematic slurping. I'm sure this same general situation can be found across most things but you won't see too many people sharing more than generalities about how they do it.

The day of the apocoLOLypse has arrived. Anon, feeling a bit hungry after running out of cheetos and monster drank still has a bottle of craft beer and some Domino's pizza crusts left from his preps but wants to flex his wealth amongst the starving idiots who didn't stack. He goes outside and walks for 45 minutes sees devastation all around but no vendors selling chickie tendies no Milfs wanting to sell their daughters. Disappointed he walks on and sees a crowd ahead and smells delicious fried food SUCCESS! He waits patiently feeling smug when he sees the price of $600 for a plate of fried rat on a bed of rice because he was right there was hyperflation. He gets to the front of the line pulls out of his box of rocks, a Merc, a Morgan, a golden Krug, a bar and even his precious FRENbucks from MintScamAnon (Premium code FREN) with the funny picture of the $ getting buckbroken by silver and desperately explains that they are real money and that one dime should buy 29 rats plus one virgin. Tyrone the security guard kicks him in the balls and bitch slaps him to the cheers of the starving crowd his box of rocks spills to the ground and is ignored. Forgotten, he tries to collect his rocks and stumbles home and ropes still clutching his treasure chest of garbage. His mommy finds his body the next day and throws the rocks in the trash along with the tranime figurines which (not) oddly smelled of feces keeping the tacky Chinese box for her sons ashes. Turns out anon was on drugs the apocoLOypse was all in his imagination.

The Canadian government sold all it's PM reserves years ago. Google says they sold their last ton of gold in 2016. Obviously, there's a lot underground, but Im guessing there are already plans to sell those mining rights to foreigners if necessary. They are literally destroying their economy and society and offering free suicide to citizens who can't adjust lol. I'd consider the CAD to a be a canary in the coal mine for the USD, and I highly doubt there will be any new national pm coinage minted there. I could see some bank/private mint coinage like that becoming circulated on a provincial/regional level after a currency collapse though, particularly in the western areas close to PM production.

Ya I'm truly sorry for you leafs. The only consolation is that we're not very far behind you in the western decay cycle lol. Maybe you guys can end up forming a separate state from the central provinces and make it a refuge for natural born Canadians or something? You could cut a deal with the Quebecoise and pincer Ottawa and Ontario lol.

Because they all have the same financiers, who are themselves from the same seraglio, and are eugenically engineering the avent of the "6th aryan root race", a mongrelized mix of all the current races, this new race is supposed to stimulate the pituitary gland to acquire psychic powers during the age of Aquarius and create the new unified world. This kind of mystic bullshit...

They already decided back in the late 1800s North America, and especially California would become their breeding ground to "create" the blueprint of this new race.
It's a weird blend between theosophy, enlightenment philosophy from the 18th c. and kabbalism. If you want to learn more you need to read Blavatsky and Steiner.

interesting. A quick search online seems to indicate the silver version of the medal was struck in proof, and apparently lower relief than the bronze. If in fact the bronze is authentic. Not sure.

Your pic appears to be struck in high relief (copy of the bronze) and a matte finish rather than proof. Also some nice applied shadow toning or waxing, similar to patination on bronze pieces found online.

Is this being sold as a reproduction piece? Or authentic?

it looks pretty similar, without seeing it in person, to the ms61 they have on the page. i'm assuming it will be something like that. i don't think this guy would be selling a reproduction as authentic. he seems to specialize in medals and has tons and tons of different ones on his site. he has a couple modern reproduction marks / thalers, but lists them as reproductions.
