Reminder that the Fed has a hidden mandate which is "wage suppression." Even if inflation is under control, even if the figure that they call unemployment (and it's a highly manipulated figure to make unemployment seem lower than it is for the purpose of wage suppression) is under control, they will still keep raising rates until people start getting laid off and wages come down. They sort of package that under "fighting inflation" but first and foremost it's about keeping your wages low. So the bottom line is, it's all going to get so much worse. TLT is easily going to go under 80 and could very well free fall down into the 60s if people don't start getting out there and working for less money.

Rates are not going to rise again given the economy is clearly hanging by a thread, they might stay elevated for a prolonged period (priced in, finally) but they aren't going up, so TLT should have bottomed out or at least nearly bottomed out by now. In the event of an actual recession (very likely at this point) the fed will slash rates and TLT will rise, am I wrong on this? I can't see TLT falling any faster unless some obscure mechanism is going to tank the fund like what the BoJ seems to be doing, is this something that is going to drive TLT even lower? you do what you want to do, but as for me
>I cannot think or comprehend of anything more cucked than buying long-term treasuries. Honestly, think about it rationally. You are loaning your money to the Federal government for at least two years solely so they can give it to weapons manufacturers, Boomers on medicare, and Israel. All the hard work you put into getting your money - wageslaving, making profitable trades, not buying too many funkopops, denying yourself avocado toast, avoiding crypto scams. All of it has one simple result: your money gets LOWER interest rates and is held up for longer than it would be in shorter term bonds and bills. Saved the perfect sum? Great. Who benefits? If you're lucky, a random NEET who had nothing to do with the way you saved your money, who gets welfare from the Feds. You get fucked by high inflation every month. The Military Industrial Complex and giant agribusiness conglomerates get the benefits of your money that came from your earnings. As an investor who buys long-term treasuries, you are LITERALLY dedicating at least two years of your investment simply to raise a sum for other people to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically.

I dont believe the Fed is the be-all-end-all of long term rates that you think they are. Do you think this is the end of institutions selling off bonds to payoff their debts? I still see a lot more bond dumping before anything gets better. This will have a bigger impact on long term rates that whatever the Fed sets on the short term.

>> No.56270639

The Fed is not lowering interest rates anytime soon because McDonalds workers think they deserve $20/hour and associates at Ford want to make more than attorneys and airline pilots. As I've said, the Fed has a hidden mandate which is wage suppression. People are not desperate right now. There is an arrogance that is still present in the population and the Fed, all owners of capital quite frankly, are disgusted by this in a way that is almost incomprehensible to people.

They will not lower rates until people start crawling in to their local Walmart and saying "p...p...please...I just need a job..." TLT is going under 80, so buying anywhere above 80 is basically lighting your money on fire. I would argue TLT is even possibly going to 60 or lower. There is plenty of precedent for things like that which "can't possibly go any lower!!! WOWZER BIG BUYZER!" dropping easily 50% beyond where people were claiming that point was. If the country slips into another recession, they'll just change the definition of recession. They don't have to cut rates for a while.

Thank you for an actual reply. I would argue and say people are definitely getting desperate now, institutions have been selling bonds consistently for nearly 2 years now, and I'm certain the fed will slash rates suddenly if we see anything resembling a crash before the election. If all these are true I can't see TLT pushing that much lower unless, again, we have foreign influences like the Bank of Japan suddenly flooding the bond market due to their own problems.

yeah pretty much - it's inevitable, which is what we have been trying to tell you
if inflationary pressures continue, becomes systemic, which happens when the economy is too hot / has been distorted by 'free money' policies for more than a decade, you need to kill the inflation with top priority - requiring much higher interest rates to shock and awe the market, as once it becomes systemic and entrenched it is harder to break the inflation
in order for inflation to be broken, the economy must go into recession - everyone is levered to the tits on debt, as if there will never be a recession; once the recession hits, which is inevitable, because the recession is mandatory for inflation to actually break, there will be no ability to make debt payments on a mass scale = market crash
it is inevitable, it is healthy, it is normal - just another one of those, a healthy part of the business / credit cycle
the more you try to prolong it and kick the can down the road, the more painful it will be

buddy, one of the best narratives that we were getting soft landing was that JOLTS was coming down at a healthy / steady pace, that because job openings would fall, we wouldn't actually have to lose jobs - that job market would come into equilibrium, which would relieve inflationary pressures
when job market is not in equilibrium (which happens due to more than a decade of bad monetary policy interventionism) employers feel like they NEED to attract talent, they NEED to hire workers, now! How do you attract talent?
You raise the wages you offer - if you're paying more than Joe Schmo down the street, employees will be more likely to work for you than for Joe Schmo
If everyone is raising wages to attract workers, without the same productivity gains (in other words, supply of goods remains the same) you just have everyone making more money, trying to chase the same number of goods - this causes inflation (as supply stayed the same while demand went up)
Today, the report showed a big, shocking reversal in JOLTS, this, in addition to BOJ intervening on 150 USD/YEN = big bond market sell off
When rates are higher, all stocks are worth lower
This is because stocks are just a lump sum payment of all future cash flows - when rates are higher, AND inflation is higher, cash that you receive 5 years from now is worth a lot less. Pretty much all stock valuation models rely on some form of discount cash flows, using the interest rate on US bonds. When rates go up, valuations go down, including semis
There is a lot more to it than just what I have been able to fit in this post, but to say "unrelated sector" is silly - they're all related, it's all interconnected
Look up "stock market beta"
