the entire 'graded collectable' market is fucking retarded. the value is always on paper never in reality because the number of people interested in buying that shit are in the single or low double digits. It all grew out of the old comics being rare because kids moms threw them away. After the 90s people realized toys might have some value so people didn't throw them away so the grading grift emerged to create artificial scarcity. Collinear with that was the attention paid to misprints carrying more value purely because they're less common. Because we all know a SHADOWLESS NO RARITY SYMBOL MISPRINT FIRST EDITION charizard is worth like 5 grand while a normal first edition is like 20-30 bucks.

The only thing stupider than this is crypto.

Agreed. Sports cards & memorabilia are ridiculous and should have little to no value. I caught a foul ball at an MLB game that I was at for a business trip last week. I don't even like baseball. A bunch of people were freaking out like it was a big deal. A friend of mine suggested that I frame it and put it on display. No thanks. I guess I'll hang on to the ball, but I can't come up with the words to explain why I should.

I'm pretty sure customs guys take absolute joy in destroying things. I ordered a bunch of AK mags from Russia before the war and some Russian customs faggot carved anti-american slurs into them.
Jokes on him because that's authentic Russian trench art now that increased the value.

The concept of collecting items that were one off, misprints, or considered old technology, is not anything new to humans

In fact, this has been going on for centuries, humans instinctively seem to find original "things" of particular interest, that and old technology. If you open some history books, you'll find some of the most important men had what today we would consider "odd" collections, but back then, was likely something many collected, but these notable figures were just one of the people who successfully collected a lot likely due to their many connections.
No im not defending these weird gay anime figure collections because it's obvious that people do that to express what little personality they have. But for some collections like an old game? For an old technology? Oh yeah, that's something any human would collect at any point in time.
