They are still very nice to me, maybe because they want to have someone lined up before they tell me or they are not sure and are just out there fishing. The job market is hot in my country, i can probably find a job before they find a suitable guy to do my work. What is the best course of action here?

Start applying for jobs right now and leave asap. They probably want you to train your replacement, so you have a little time but need to take action NOW.

The professional world really is like dating huh.

Yes. Always fuck them over first with their time and money and don’t give them a chance to fuck you over. I once had a dumb roastie tell me that she had a date with somebody else lined up the next day and another later that week. I told her I’d be right back then went and just drove home.

Usually they just fire you without notice and escort you out of the building. Training your own replacement is only really a thing for retirement or if the employee is quitting and wants to stay on good terms with that company

If they are trying to replace you it means they don't really care about you. The niceness is a facade because you are that critical to their operations.
Walk up to the boss and tell him you need a 50% pay raise now, or you walk out the door and don't come back tomorrow. Make it absolutely clear you will not take any pussyfooting for an answer.

Tell HR you're transitioning and start wearing a wig to work. They'll be too scared of lawsuit to replace you.

They want to get as much work as possible out of you before they have someone else lined up. I would just make sure to show up on time every day and sit on your ass all day doing as little as possible.

Only gives them more reason to hire someone else.

Try to find an other position and in the meanwhile keep all process critical information solely to yourself (read not on the intranet or in your OneDrive) if you need to save anything or have work documentation do it on your local harddrive.

Next confront your teamlead about it, tell him your friend hit you up with the message that they look something like your own job. Ask him directly, are you going to replace me? If they say Yes then tell them you feel overwhelmed that you need to hear it this way and your feeling sick and are going home. If they say no (likely), send after the meting the notes in which you stated that you talk with your teampead about this situation and that you are not getting replaced (they absolutely hate this shit).

Some other things worth mentioning if it's confirmed that they want to let you go
- If you are in an union talk with them
- Talk with an attorney
- Guilt trip them in giving you a glowing reference letter (something about how your a high performer but due economic events they let you go).

If you got balls of steel, plan a meeting with the higher up of your team member and someone from the HR department. Tell them that you didn't got any support from your teamlead and how you are surprised about the recent events and that this doesn't fit your expectations of the company. Make sure to have some bro co-workers writing good reviews beforehand about your work and use that as evidence.

Are you sure they’re not replacing you because they were going to promote you to a better position?

I wouldn’t do any of this, I would just confront my immediate manager about what’s going on. Depending on which country you’re in it may not be a bad thing to get fired and collect some unemployment. Make sure you read the fine print about how to go about doing that because they have ways to deny it.

You know who get fired, losers and dead weight. That's not my opinion, but the opinion of the people you hope that hire you in your next job.

Only reason to accept leaving is when you get a few months to find some other job.

Sandbox and remove redundancies. Then rename all files and recreate you own hierarchy with whatever you find is perfect for your mind.
Document absolutely nothing, and name file hierarchy random shit to obfuscate where things exist.
Also password lock important files.

Then when they replace you, walk away. Zero turn over.

>Only gives them more reason to hire someone else.
Think about the circumstances OP described. They can't hire someone else, that's why they are feigning kindness, or at least they can't find anyone yet. OP, whatever he does, is critical to the operation. He has power.

Devilish.
