Every time I complain here about how much money I make people come out of the woodworks and say "start a business" and "I make 15k a month with my business" but they never say what their business is.

they are. it's just another case of poorfags pretending to be rich. ask them for an anonymized tax return and they'll balk. starting a business is extremely challenging and most will fail because it's not about having a good idea -- it's about having a good idea, access to capital, a primed customer base, and luck.

You could start literally any low-cost business and make some money with it as a side hustle. But being truly successful and makking it into a real business is a whole different level.

You dont need to have a good idea or re invent the wheel. You can take a proven concept and do it slightly better or different than the competition.

Starting a business is hard work and without any guarantee that it'll be profitable long-term.
Making 15K a month from a business is possible the first or second year but how much of that do you get to pocket?
Depending on where you live tax-wise and additional expenses it might not be enough.

And yes, nobody who's worth a damn comes here.

It depends on where you live, and undoubtedly a lot of them do, but you really need to understand the times. You open a business where you do actually valuable work like niche trades. You ask 100 per hour. You're the only guy in even a decently large town and completely swamped by demand. You work 9 to 5 5 days a week. Do the math and you're making 14k/month.

No really anon. Find a business near you that works on things like concrete rot. How many do you find? How many don't require you wait a year for them to even make you an offering?

We live in a time where it's incredibly easy to start a business just because most people want to do zero value corporate bullshit jobs like middle management or start businesses like über for racoons or some shit. Those people used to be competitors. Now if you have an actual skill you can suck these people dry.

Thanks so much for the fun thread. I actually was making 15k a month with UpWork doing Software/IT projects but it was a real grind. You have to do sales and tech yourself, and the tech has risk of not delivering successfully. UpWork makes it so that you only get paid 2 weeks AFTER delivery, so if you have costs you just have to eat them up-front. They also take 10% fee off the top and charge you to apply to jobs. UpWork sucks so I stopped.

I like /biz/ between the nonsense it's a great measure of market sentiment.
I started a business 10years ago in large capital equipment sales.
We are a small team but we do 5-10 million per year in sales.
From that I make high 6's to low 7's per year. I funnel most of it into a holding company so I don't pay income tax and I'm for the most part in cash at the moment getting 4.5% interest.

Reason most businesses don't make it is because people don't know how to and aren't willing to prospect and sell... It's the rarest skill in business to find, but not hard to learn, it just requires a lot of discomfort and people generally want to sit on their ass and play with SEO and their logo.

One of the largest deals I ever closed was 9 million and I got it through lobbing up on a doorstep unannounced.

We pay company tax on our profits at 275%
My income tax rises to around 45% in the top bracket
So we pay the money to the holding company and invest, taxes in our holding company are 30% so our money compounds faster

the truth is, you need money to make money, but you can also scale, but its knowing when, who, what, why and where you invest that'll bring you good success. Betting on coins and markets, yes people have made their riches there, but why invest in something that has a probability of failing based on events that are bigger than you?

thats why I create things everyday, because I know success is more about how long they've done it for, and analyzing their mistakes, more than a get rich quick scheme.

if anyone truly wants to try at putting your money to work and invest in something real, contact me at helpmeoutop at gmail dot com, im currently developing a dating app that is different from the rest, i have software engineers lined up ready to build it but I need the capital. The graphic design and branding is in progress but the main screen's already have a really good vision as how they're designed (by myself, an architect). All the rest of the screens are mapped out and is currently in progress in terms of graphic design. The most important part, how am I going to make it viral? Easy, I've also got influencers that do this exact same concept (except nobody has made the app) to market this. They already get millions of views and likes just by saying and doing what the core of the app is. I've got the number of one of the most viral from it.

if you truly believe in good ideas CAN make a fortune, this is your bet, so who wants to get things done?

On the subject of electronics, there is a lot of electronics out there for those that tinker and develop/prototype. Shit like adafruit, sparkfun, and all the chinky shit on amazon/ebay. However, there are some holes for some products and cant find what I need. I have designed and produced some PCBs for my own needs to fill those gaps for work and also some solid PCBs for whole solutions for particular micro-controllers. I was thinking I could over produce and sell them. Do you think there is any opportunity/money in selling them?

What about locally in your area? I was thinking about advertising for custom products locally. Could also do electronics repair, but my gut tells me there is no money in that. Advertising for this would be cheap and fairly easy, but I don't see a big demand. I would enjoy doing it. I am sort of like the EEV guy, but without the accent and youtube channel.

don't do it unless you

have a very large customer base,
no competition in the area
actually are happy with doing grunt work 95% of the time

margin is alright but the amount per sale is ridiculously small unless you sell to wholesaler (which then will kill your margin, also good luck finding someone who will buy your uncertified stuff)

it's doable - no question - but it's hard work

also if u are not able to do sales nearly impossible.

>amount per sale is ridiculously small unless you sell to wholesaler (which then will kill your margin

I thought about starting off just selling to a wholesaler/food broker. Just produce as much as I can and sell it off to them. And then on my packaging I can write my information with something like "call for direct orders". Or if I could somehow find out who they are selling my produce to and then go to them directly and offer my product to them. "I can sell you the same product for the same price but you will get it less than 12 hours after it's harvested..."

>good luck finding someone who will buy your uncertified stuff
Are you referring to the non GMO and organic certification?

Anyways, here are some other questions I came up with

>How is the competition where you live?

>Who did you sell to? Restaurants? Grocery stores? Farmers markets?

>What variates did you grow? Which ones should I grow when starting?

>What was your setup like? (Growing space, number of racks, treys, etc)

>I don't really mind doing grunt work
I asked if you are HAPPY, not if you "don't mind" - because i also thought "i dont mind" but that shit will get boring sooo quickly (atleast did for me) because it is very very repetitive.
>I thought about starting off just selling to a wholesaler/food broker
maybe this is different in your location but where i am located (central europe) you won't be able to find a wholesaler so quickly - especially with your (probably) limited production quantities and 0 certifications etc.
>Or if I could somehow find out who they are selling my produce to and then go to them directly
don't - it is the other way around. logistics is such a hassle for such a relatively low price product (that also needs right temperature and humidity etc.) try to have as few contacts to sell to as possible and try to focus on maximizing the amount you produce (just calculate like how many fulfillments with transport costs etc. you need with an avg. order of around 30-50$ (these values may vary greatly depending where you live etc.) per restaurant per week)
>Are you referring to the non GMO and organic certification?
yes, and other certifications that may apply to your location (IFS Global Markets Food for example). These are expensive as fuck (especially for a new startup) and without it will be pretty hard (atleast was for us) to find someone buying your stuff in bulk.
>How is the competition where you live?
none, but we were founding in a relatively small customer base area (1 city with around 70k people living in it nearby, that's it)
part 1, will answer in a second

>Who did you sell to? Restaurants? Grocery stores? Farmers markets?
all 3, best are the grocery stores but depends if you work on commission (most likely) or you if u have a hookup that is actually willing to buy your stuff directly. Restaurants usually order like 30-60$ worth of stuff per week and farmers markets... god i fucking hate farmers markets.. your target audience is 40 year old karens that think by eating a bit of green each week that will offset a lifetime of bad health habits. and your fucking job is to convince them they are right with that thought. Besides that obviously hippies and leftist scum. Also you stand around all day in the sun repeating your selling-talk for the 923457th time each day. 0 fun (atleast for me)
>What variates did you grow? Which ones should I grow when starting?
radish mix - easy for beginners, go for it
mustard - same, although harvest amount not so great
broccoli - same as mustard
sunflower - high amount harvest and cheap seeds but pain in the ass to clean of those fucking seed hulls
peas - my favourite, seeds are cheap as dirt, they don't need any love and give a high amount when harvested
rucola - very tasty but pain in the ass and low harvest
chive garlic - same as rucola, also had some problems with mold (allthough that could be because of our seed supplier)

dont go for to many varieties, will be hard because they all need a little bit of different humidity/temperature. just focus on the "winners" We tried many more varieties (i have so many different seeds in storage, atleast when the apocalypse comes i have enough of that shit to trade with)
>What was your setup like? (Growing space, number of racks, treys, etc)
6 racks with 16 slots of 1020 trays each and "more or less" automatic watering system + 1 rack for blackout and 1 "rack" for sprouting. All DIY built + 1 cooling chamber for harvested product. Also if you have no climate control (very much $$$)have fun getting the right humidty/temperature

which also takes us to the next problem, after harvesting your product won't last long, the logistics with having a product that goes bad after a few days (and cant be sold for full price) is also a pain in the ass. get used to having to throw away very much, especially in the beginning.

>What are some of the mistakes you made that I might learn from?
besides the stuff i already mentioned...hmm.. try to keep your overhead as small as possible, focus on winning varieties. Put very much thought in your calculations whether what you are doing is feasible in your area (= be overly pessimistic) and also very much thought/time in finding a suitable location (you are producing food after all, has to be clean etc.)
if u go farmers market route also sell other shit to customers besides the greens itself (racks, trays, seeds etc.)
Build everything as time-effective as you can - for example cleaning trays and racks and the whole grow space etc. will quickly grow to taking a lot of your time
for selling to restaurants: just make an appointment with chef of the kitchen and bring him a free test package of each variety you have and go from there.

What are your financials like? How much money are you willing to put into this?
But yeah biggest question for you should: Will i be happy doing grunt work (cleaning and other repetitive tasks) for 80% of the day while 19% of your time is spent selling to retards. If you actually enjoy atleast the 80% part because that is who you are, go for it. Else i highly advice against it.

>do you have a kickstarter? I can also help you with product testing. Female toys only tho. no gay shit.
My adult toys are very niche. I don't have a kickstarter but here are two of my projects:
https://teledong.com
https://hedokan.com/product/super-long-tentacle-male-masturbator/

>I was thinking I could over produce and sell them. Do you think there is any opportunity/money in selling them?
Yes, there definitely could be. My rule of thumb for creating a business is: If YOU have a need for the product you are trying to sell, at least some other people almost certainly also have a need for it.

It depends a lot on potential volume though, electronics are very expensive per unit to produce a few of, but very cheap to produce a lot of. So the profit margin can vary wildly.

>What about locally in your area? I was thinking about advertising for custom products locally.
Personally I have no experience with that, I think the global internet is far easier to do business on than locally. Especially when doing niche stuff like me.

thank you so much for the valuable information. I can't thank you enough

>god i fucking hate farmers markets
yeah me too. I actually want to sell by other means. and even if I wanted to, I've heard that our local farmers markets have like a 7 year waiting period or something like that.

>6 racks with 16 slots of 1020 trays
wow thats quite impressive.
My dad built my little sister a shed in the backyard so she could use a hangout spot/study room but she rarely uses it anymore. Thats probably where I'll start for now. I'm sure I can easily fit two racks in there. three even. Then I'll probably built another shed if my business starts picking up, with wash station and all that.

> just make an appointment with chef of the kitchen and bring him a free test package of each variety you have and go from there.
this is the route I want to take. did you also have one of those product sheets with different varieties and prices? Can you go a bit more in depth on this? did you have a sales pitch? did you target restaurants that already had microgreens or not? Did the chef say yes on the spot? did they call you back? ghost you?

>best are the grocery stores
also. how similar question to above: can you go in more detail on how you sold to grocery stores?

>watch out who you are partnering up with.
yeah I do not want a partner. I strictly want to do this solo. maybe I'll get my grandpa (who loves gardening) to help me water them or whatever but that it.

I bought some Walgreens stock. Yeah they are shit right now, but it's cheap and I figure, it can only go up from there. This is what I said about my Nikola stock (pre Hindenburg Research report). That turned out awesome. I am literally retarded. I should have just bought SPYs... :(

where i live food authority would laugh at you for trying to do this and forbid you selling food. When that food authority guy was at our place the first time we got registered he gave us a list with like 40 points on it which we had to solve before selling anything. (was like 7k€ to fix, just for paint we paid like 1k€)
but that very much depends on where you live i guess. But it is a great opportunity for you to try it as a hobby first (like sell to neighbours etc unofficially) and see if u like the work.
>did you also have one of those product sheets with different varieties and prices?
yes although a flyer can be made very quickly today with all those AI tools and whatever is available now for free.
>did you have a sales pitch?
not really, i learned by doing. You just go in there, let him taste it, talk a bit about why your stuff is better/fresher/more healthy than ordering from the dutch super farms (pic somewhat related) and also (depending on the customer) an argument is also supporting local business, then you pray you go home with a 40$ per week order. It's not that hard but also like i said you wont sell big amounts (atleast to my experience) to them.
>did you target restaurants that already had microgreens or not?
our area is so small that we literally wrote every single fucking restaurants/kitchen/whatever there is no - don't care how big or small or if they have greens or not on their stuff.
> Did the chef say yes on the spot?
Those that did order mostly "said yes" on the day we gave the test package, yes
did they call you back?
for the most part no, you'll have to call them again and again. dont expect them to "run after you and your product"
ghost you?
never had that happen, but i have to say i always was very friendly to people/customers and i (atleast have the impression) that i can fake being very social (although i am quite introverted and actually hate talking to strangers)

also another thing i remember:

take care of your water quality, mineral contents and pH levels.
pH from tapwater here is like 8 and plants hate that. You can lower pH pretty easily and cheap with with citric acid (just do some calculations with wolframalpha and experiment with your ph meter to create a standard solution). If u have an ebb and flow hydro system (like we had) that will also greatly change your pH levels after usage.
Fixing that changed A LOT in production and growing quality for us.
Also those pH-Meters you get for 15€ from amazon are total shit and will break and give wrong readings a few months in, even if u storage them correctly in KCL-Solution. If u can afford just order a good one from Fischer Scientific or w/e.

there are many youtubers but mostly stuff is not neccessarily applicable for your location. Stuff like molding, sprouting and growing seems highly variable depending on your location, your water and your source of seeds (even 2 batches of seeds from the same supplier may vary greatly on those factors - always do germination tests) Just because it works for them doesn't mean it works for you. You'll just have to try out. Try to focus on having constant production parameters so you can find out what is the problem. It's hard to pinpoint errors in your production when temperature, humidity, seed density and other stuff greatly varies from day to day. Also regarding seed density, we often found that those values mentioned online are too low or too high. Just experiment and document everything. Also you should not do "manual production" planing but rather create an excel spreadsheet that calculates from your orders what you need to seed. GPT will help greatly in creating a sheet that does that work for you. Also the infos on whether to blackout or not and how long is sprouting/blackout/soaking time can greatly vary. Just experiment till you are happy with the result.

I absolutely have a soul.

The Darth Vader house rules, and it is ideal for my life. It has a very unique architecture which is unlike half of the cardboard McMansions posted in this thread. This house is 7,000 square feet 4bed/5bath in a high-end urban area near an elite university. Let me guess, you need more?

Furthermore, S-class is, of course, S-tier perfection. It is the choice of Heads of State worldwide for many obvious reasons. It even has massaging seats. I don't need flashy BS, or excessive maintenance costs. I need understated luxury in the form of comfort and performance.

I don't need a watch. Firstly, I hate wearing watches. They always get in the way of my typing. Instead, I need a next-gen personalized LLM AI assistant. Access via voice control client on my smartphone. Probably would cost as much to implement as an upper-mid tier watch anyways.

Lastly, the girl is just there because she looks hot to me. Everyone needs a tight little Brazilian fighter tomboy.

The only seethe I see here is you, with a healthy side of cope
You didn't even ask that other anon >>55938046 basic questions like his COGS and G&A rate, you just sperged out and ranted how your increasingly useless profession makes you able to instantly understand anyone's business somehow. You objectively proved you're a shitty accountant, that's it

I'm sorry why is the imbecile "accountant" making less money than me that doesn't even know GAAP costing categories, still responding to my posts? Shouldn't you be busy mis-categorizing someone's other direct costs into COGS like a retard monkey?

My wife and I have a cleaning business. We do all the cleaning ourselves. We live in a high cost of living area and most people typically pay $175-225 per cleaning. We can knock a house out in two hours, three if it's large or particularly messy. The kitchens and bathrooms are what most people care about the most. Some of our customers that's all they want us to do. Most people do biweekly cleanings.

It's hard work. That's really the key with small businesses, people are paying you for things they either can't do or don't want to do. We aren't rich at all. After taxes we're making a little less than six figures. It's nice not having bosses and a traditional job, though. Some people pay cash as well, which is nice for obvious reasons.

We are planning on transitioning to commercial cleaning but will need to hire employees. Already have a line on our first office.

based. I know a woman that had a good career running a cleaning business and had a nice house, car, etc but she got on crack and now she's homeless and stealing people's mail. Disgusting desu.
