I work in a cinema and im starting to feel really bad working behind concessions.

I sold an old woman and her grandaughter 2 small popcorns and 2 small drinks for 23 dollars yesterday. I was so embarrassed by the price I didnt even say it out loud I just motioned her to the card reader. She muttered under her breath "Hold on im being bullied" to her granddaughter as she was talking to her because she was probably dumbfounded by the price but she walked off anyway. She might have thought I was scamming her.

Later on some woman started shouting at me because her 2 drinks and a popcorn was nearly 20 dollars. I just told her I dont make the prices I just work here and she calmed down and walked off but it does wear you down.

The large popcorn and drinks seem more reasonable because you get a big bucket of popcorn so I tried to tell the older woman to get a larger size but she said no so I handed over a tiny bit of popcorn and a tiny drink x2 for 22 dollars.

People are becoming less and less enthusiastic working the retail part of the business and I think this is why. You see people die inside realising they're spending so much money on so little. You cant justify it and feel like youre robbing naive people not knowing they're about to get scammed by the prices

I used to be a projectionist (remember those?) but I was supposed to help out in the concession stand when I wasn't busy upstairs. Even back then, I witnessed some families spending over $100 on their buckets of hours-old popcorn and jugs of freshly mixed corn syrup water, then waddling down the hallway to sit in dirty chairs and watch Space Chimps or what the fuck ever. After a while, nothing about that tragedy of an industry really surprises you anymore.

I'd like to give you guys a look into a euro cinema. I have four movie theaters within walking distance of my front door. Each has 5 or 6 rooms. I pay 22 euros a month for unlimited access.

They serve microbrew beer for 6 euros a bottle, or draft for 5 euros. These are stronger beers i.e. 6 to 9% ABV. A small popcorn is 4.50, you can choose salty sweet or mixed. I wouldn't know what soda costs because I unironically never drink it, but I'm guessing it's like 3.50 for a bottle.

I get super stoned, walk over to the cinema and fuckin' kick back about 2 times a week.

iktf OP. I worked at an Odeon here in England for 2 years. I was constantly ashamed to tell the customer's the prices of things. In the end I started outright telling people to go buy some snacks at the store and sneak them in. I told them nobody would do anything anyway, as long as they weren't being obnoxious and bringing in buckets of KFC (which niggers did every single day).
I hated that shit. In the last 2 months before I left I started charging people for small combos when they asked for a large, and I'd give them loads more icecream and whatever else if I was on that station. If ever I saw anyone steal something I just let them, never said anything, didn't bring it up.
I just didn't turn into work one day for the busiest week of the year, and that was that. I couldn't hack it anymore. They all thought I was a cunt for it but whatever.

Yeah dude I bought popcorn and two drinks the other day and it was like nearly $30 at the AMC near us. Their business model must just be trash I think, because I can go to an Alamo and for ~$10 more I can get 2 full meals and drinks served with my movie tickets.

Anyways, I liked movies but cinema is actually unironically just slop all around these days. YouTube’s just better in my opinion, more varied and interesting content with as many sequels as you can stomach. Sales guys get paid alot because they are good at selling and there isn't already a buyer.
The company provides the product, shipping, name brand, and handles all the costs of doing business which allows the sales team to focus solely on selling.
You don't need to know anything other than being a convincing seller who can understand the needs of the buyer and can turn around any negative thoughts about the product.
Its like how in mcdonalds they have people doing specific jobs like working the fries only.
The high compensation makes sense when you realize that the company would fall apart without the sales team paying for the operation
