Many companies will die before they ever pay out what they're valued at today. Some will succeed massively. It averages out.

When you look at US stocks outperforming bonds, the global market, etc over time, it's mostly just monetary inflation and rates manipulation expanding multiples. Population increase helps too, as more workers and consumers interact with the same old megacaps.
But there will come a point where the US market does not give any real return. Only nominal growth. Fake gains, fake profits, but real taxes due to inflation slowly eroding your real wealth.

If we do fall after AAPL / AMZN earnings, then the 'plan' went wrong, and there is a much more serious of a sell off than anticipated to come

this way, as many puts capitulate, and more people buy the dip / try to buy calls - creating more liquidity
