there are a lot of things that have made the DXY rise in the past week, all of these contributed:
>strong economic data, more demand for dollars (people need to pay their employees, demand more dollars) capital inflows that strong data brings, expectations for more aggressive Fed monetary policy since jobs are expanding aggressively past maximum employment
>yields rising sharply, dollar goes up when yields go up (more attractive bonds, foreign investors sell their currency, buy dollars - more buyers of dollars than sellers - have to buy US bonds in dollars) combination of BOJ raising their strict interest rate which made carry trade unwind - investors/traders will borrow yen, sell the yen, buy dollars, use those dollars to buy US bonds (or other higher yielding assets) now that this is less attractive, unwind some of this to where they are also selling US bonds making yields rise, also economic data making yields rise (more growth + expectations for Fed policy + more demand for money)
>other central banks have waved the white flag, most importantly the ECB; the market had accepted 100%, and positioned as if it was 100% chance, that since the Fed did triple 75bps hikes and was very aggressive early, all the other central banks would have to continue hiking past the Fed, that the Fed would pause and or cut, while other central banks remained aggressive - this made their currencies appreciate relative to the dollar, especially short dollar long euro trade extremely, extremely crowded trade. ECB just waved white flag, making euro fall against the dollar; then also had BOJ unlimited bond buying / trying desperately to prevent yields rising to 1% (making US yields rise as they sell US bonds, and also making yen depreciate vs dollar) yen and euro are the highest weighted currencies in the DXY basket - super crowded trade, causing a big unwind / "short squeeze" and pop in the dollar

so i was playing around with the thinkorswim® app at work today and discovered that there's a set of drawings i can add to my charts. one of which is called "cycle brackets", apparently what it does is, after you set two points on the chart, it will draw these half circles aka the cycles running infinitely to either direction. after adjusting the cycles with the MACD reversals, it suddenly made more sense. with this new found knowledge combined with my existing indicators, i was more certain in shorting PLTR. either i'm right, or its back to the drawing board.
