Come to think of it, futures were one of the signs of this shit show blowing up. What we need to see is banks leveraging themselves to the hilt for/against this stuff, commercials on TV advertising to put your retirement in a crypto account, and bunches of these things being bundled in to crypto-backed securities to even out the swings but ultimately end up being packages of shitcoins given triple-a investment grades and sold to unsuspecting boobs.

Watch for dumb people traps too, advertising to people to get in to crypto when they have no earthly business getting in. Something along the lines of taking out a loan to buy crypto with the idea that the price will grow faster than interest rate on the loan.

You know, assuming this IS all a bubble and not a new world order of central bank-free monetary bases. I mean right now the tech is good, and the lack of alternatives means Bitcoin and altcoins are as good as we have at the moment, but a new global paradigm will involve a blockchain that can actually handle everything we want to use it for without shitting the bed.

In less concerned over the volume and more the fact that it gets Wall Street thinking derivatives are safe. For now it's no big deal, a couple of suits playing around. Bubble time will see that volume explode though, and we'll have options, and credit default swaps and whatever the fuck else those crazy banking bastards will come up with.

The big sign will be contagion. Crypto blows up tomorrow, no big deal, a bunch of neets and the winklevoss twins are out some money. If we get to the point crypto failing drops a big old turd on JP Morgan's desk, that's when you should get worried.

People only know about tulip mania because it's one of the first instances of a recorded futures contract, and most of the time they get the details wrong. Run of the mill tulips never got that expensive. What was expensive were the occasional odd colored tulips that was caused by a virus. THOSE were expensive, because it was the hobby of a few well to do folks and they were hard to come by.

The thing with tulips is that it can take up to five years for a seed to become a bulb, and then like 15 weeks for them to actually grow in to a flower, so the future business came about because they were basically playing lottery with a flower bed. You spent a bunch of money for future delivery of tulips in the hopes that one of them ended up as one of the super valuable discolored ones. Of course because it was a virus that also killed the plant, you ended up with a bunch of people pretty pissed off they bought a whole bed of flowers that were worthless.

Crypto really isn't the same thing as tulips, and fucks sake people, we have a lot more recent bubbles we can take as a point of comparison. We're honestly closer to the .com bubble than anything, with idiots throwing money at every scammer with a blockchain.
