There's no point in arguing with these retards. They are fundamentally disabled in such a way that makes them incapable of understanding that people can simply pick winning stocks, instead of gambling on the highly leveraged beta of these ETFs.
They can't even fathom the possibility that someone may want to size positions. They don't understand that the same leverage techniques they use could also be applied to single stocks (with exception of IRAs which have margin limitations). They have never even heard of position sizing, and to be fair there's not much difference anyway since their portfolio size is mid 5 figs or low 6 figs 100% of the time.
Don't even try to mention the cost of leverage that they're taking. These midwits legitimately think that the 1% expense ratio listed on yahoo finance is their only cost.

Also, lets hear your 1 month gain? What's your 1 week gain?
More importantly, what's your 5 year gain?
What's your actual money-weighed return, the actual amount of dollars you've earned in your history as a trader?

Lets hear it. Give us all your personal data. Apparently results driven data is worth more to you than logical thinking and understanding of probabilities, so if you want to go down this path surely you're sitting on at least 7 figures of profits? Surely...?

>i have about 170,000 dollars
Thanks for clarifying. Anecdotal, but it is quite interesting how it's always low 6-figs.
I'm speculating here, but it seems like there's some king of dunning-kruger valley between where people hit savings (or trading profits) equal to 1x annual income and start to think themselves geniuses. Then somewhere shortly after that, they always blow up. There's a sort of hard mental barrier of learning to manage risk that separates those with low 6-figs from the 7+. This is just a theory, of course.
For your sake, please read up on the kelly criterion.

Sidenote - it's impossible to start with zero and achieve any investment return. Time-weighted returns also skew massively when depositing savings over time from near-zero. This is why I asked for money-weighted.
I've already posted about my typical returns, for the record. My YTD returns are also on pace if you really must know. This is a pretty casual year, considering SPY is up 20% itself.

I find it unbelievable how much time it takes for the market to assess reality. The semiconductor industry is beyond fucked since a while, but still, (((analysts))) come out with "it's gonna be better in 2025" narrative, and until now, the markets just chug that happily.
It really takes TSMC (not even ASML lol) to make a dent in the soxx index. What are the analysts smoking? Im in the backend side and we sold jackshit this quarter (ok only a few to ST and Infineon because that's the only sector growing right now). If I could short my company, I'd do it in a heartbeat with 500x leverage, because when they'll release earnings, that'll be abysmal. Yeah, a big part of my development as a trader was being retarded enough to hold options that were up big just cuz I wanted that 100% gain or some arbitrary number. And then you get to experience the pain of it going the opposite way and you ending up 90% in the red instead. I actually think paying the market tax to experience that is quite important, it teaches you to not be greedy, or at least recognize when you’re being greedy. I still have days where my plays will be up 30%+, and catch myself going “but what if I miss out on another 30%?” and then quickly remember the pain from all the other times I’ve had that thought and let it ride and lost it all.
I genuinely think WSB and that balls to the walls mentality has corrupted the public mindset towards trading. Everyone wants some kind of massive play just to show off to people, when in reality if you can hit even 10% on trades consistently, once your playing stack grows large enough you will be making nice gains.

Definitely, you see it all the time here. And then inevitably comes the loss porn when they hit losses 4 or 5 plays in a row and wipes them out because they apparently can’t handle using a simple stop. Which on some level I get, there’s some kind of mental block I’ve noticed in myself where the greed kicks in and I want to move my stop and let the play go longer as I see I’m about to lock in a loss. The best way I’ve found to manage that is just reducing my playing stack size, that way if I lose it’s only a couple hundred bucks or something. It’s hard mentally to accept you’re about to be stopped out for $1k+, and it’s even harder to stomach when you get stopped out only to watch the play you were convinced would happen, happen right after you’re out.

Granted, it is gambling if you don't know what you're doing but once you know a few things, strategies, and etc. then it's similar to like playing poker where you want the probability on your side. I keep slurping TSLA, how badly is this going to backfire?

youre talking to people who dont backtest or verify their strategies in any sort of quantitative way let alone also have a better than average method of predicting real risk which imo is even more of a gamble than finding predictive trends. the real gigabrain move is to recognize that you cant outcompete quant firms unless you have inside info and slurp index returns while trolling people like you
