So, I've been looking into Goldbacks today and came across a video regarding their durability, in that they would fall apart in due time. There are special wallets to store them to help reduce this, but it then made me realize something. Why didn't they just make the all the goldbacks the size of a credit card with the denominations based on thickness. If there's any reason why the manufacturer wouldn't, please let me know why.

>> No.55452461

It's in some weird basement slab and yeah XF40 seems really farfetched.
The scratches are actually adjustment marks from the manual filing down of the planchet to get it to the right weight. Adjustment marks won't throw up a details grade. I actually got this coin at a steep discount because the seller thought they were scratches that the grading service failed to mention.

>> No.55452464

You say that, but having it credit card size makes them more portable. Even the smallest Goldback is too big to carry in my pocket without bending. A credit card size Goldback would prevent me from doing that.

>> No.55452532

>>55452464
>but
Two cheeks put together.
If you have less area, you have to have a thicker coating. The current process lays down layers only so thick. So for larger notes they not only increase area, they also put down more passes. Goldback claims the costs for the larger bills goes up linearly because the process time increases. So a note with twice the mass is double the cost of the smaller note, not twice the cost of the mass plus a set manufacturing cost.
You may not like it, but it be what it is. They're silly expensive already.

Here is the full obverse pic graded by the weird seemingly defunct "PGA". I cropped it because the glare and scuffs on the plastic were somewhat distracting.
>Also the weird hairline scratch pattern on the obverse looks sus.
That's from the slab, it's super scuffed up.
>Regardless of what the scratches actually are, both PCGS and NGC are gonna call them out as details.
Here is the founder of CAC John Albanese discussing giving CAC stickers to adjustment mark coins. These adjustment marks will not give a details grade and will even pass CAC's inspections in most cases, since they were applied to the blank planchet before the coin was minted.
https://web.archive.org/web/20171227033745/http://www.caccoin.com/cac-in-the-news/qa-with-john-albanese-adjustment-marks/

The strike on this type is also characteristically weak, which makes it even harder to grade. Deformations to the planchet from the adjustment marks make the strike even worse. Looking at a lot of the pictures PCGS has, a lot of the coins between VF20-VF35 look interchangeable.

You bought the highs? Then he ragequit leaving you no reason or money to buy more silver, the prices crashed, leaving you holding a huge bag and a 80% loss. You should hire him to keep shilling for the federal reserve otherwise silver will fall back to $6. In a non-clownworld, banksters slurping millions upon millions of oz all of sudden after a sizeable dip would be considered a signal the bottom have been reached.
Now is a good time to panic buy desu, mostly because the supply chain isn't as tight as it used to, so the premiums have gone down by a lot.

But also because summer is always a very tense period for the financial system. Especially the western banks. Each year, it's trillions USD worth of savings migrating south, with all the wagies spending what they could save for the past year in vacations. It leaves huge holes in the treasury of most western nations banks, money they'd rather have at disposition as collateral for all kinds of operations.
This is why imho some of the globoelites have been warning about a financial collapse for July/August.

>My social anxiety will prevent this from ever happening
I used to have crippling social anxiety and damn near had panic attacks when I considered going to the cashier to pay for things I wanted or was faced with the prospect of conversing with strangers until I was around 13. Then I managed to develop something of a "theory of mind" for different personality types of people and realized that I was just being a retard and that no one notices or cares about any of the silly things I would get so worked-up and anxious about. I still don't particularly like being surrounded by and having to interact with a bunch of randoms but when i have set up at markets or antique shows it has been a profitable as well as a very rewarding and positive experience, if you ever manage to force yourself to do it you'll probably discover that it's actually pretty cool.
>Should i try to clean them to your opinion?

That's very interesting, for me it has been the opposite. I used to be very socially active, the usual "jester of the band", who had a lot of success with friends and girls. Here, i recently found back few pics on my HS folders, pic was me at 15 or 16yo.

Then very progressively, from 20yo onward, i started to hate being in contact with most people, because i felt i was stuck in a loop of always the same shallow talks, that i was never evolving because of it. I still crave the company of intelligent ppl i can freely discuss with, on (what would be considered unusual) topics in depths, it's simply i noticed i was surrounded with cretins for the most part so i decided it wasn't worth the hassle anymore.

But it reached a point where now i automatically assume it wont be worth initiating a conversation with anyone (but few close frens), so i close myself to all meetups. I know this is a vicious circle i need to break from, but i don't have the courage, and my handicap made it so much worse, since i can only leave my bed for few hours before being in nagging, debilitating pain.

Thanks fren kek, but i'm far past my prime, felt safe to post this old pic because i don't look like that since a long while.

>is there no other option for you? Surgery?
Sadly it's not an option, it's a degenerative disease, a bit like allergies to make it simple, where my immune system reject my spine, thinking it's a foreign object. Which trigger countless inflamatory episodes. So the best i can do is take what's called "anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha", in weekly injections. This is a drug based on live tissues of monkey brains (i shit you not lol) who act as antibodies inhibitors triggering an artificial immunosuppression. Basically medically inducing AIDS so my body stop to try rejecting my spine.
This is a very rare disease who came up out of nowhere back when i was 26. No historic in both families going back at least 5 generations, even though it's supposed to be genetic... I recently read it could have been a rare side effect of (((vaccines))) given at birth, i've zero medical knowledge, but it wouldn't surprise me much tbdesu.

Speaking of which, you have kids from what i remember, how is the legislation concerning vax on newborns in the US?
Over here they passed (((laws))) not long ago saying a refusal of vax is considered life-endangering and the court take your kids from you until you accept.
But in truth it wasn't much different before that, using a different strategeme : unvaxxed kids aren't allowed in school. But since school is mandatory for all kids until they reach 16yo...

The wife of my best fren tried every legal mean she could to dodge the vax for her last baby girl, after she lost 2 friends to the clotshots in 2022, but there was not escape, and had to give up eventually. Was a massive redpill for her to swallow to say the least..
Is it mandatory too in the US?

>Anyway if I ever travel to France I'll come visit you
With pleasure, and you wont have to pay for an hotel of course, i'll host you for as long as you want. Sadly i do not live in the most gorgeous region, if i can advise you a nice spot, it's to go for the Alps, south-east. Webm very related.

Using a detector you mean? Just thinking about it i feel like a kid, digging up old stuff ignite my inner Indiana Jones kek. I really need to buy one. Would you teach me the basics here? I've the chance of living close to a forest where an ancient paved roman road is passing through, and it was a major commercial artery, connecting Cenabum to Lutetia. You still can see the roman milestones, who are very well preserved to this day, and used by joggers to sit on to catch their breath most of the time.

Btw, did you ever consider hunting fossils? The US may not have a long civilizational history, but in term of ancient biodiversity, you probably have the most incredible patch of land on earth (or at least the best sedimentary substrate to imprison said biodiversity).
All the best finds come from the US, sounds like an opportunity to me!

Guys i have a burning question
I saw online some chinks are selling fake Morgan dollars but they’re made from real silver and 10 percent copper.
It’s got me wondering, if they got the details right how could you tell if the weight was good size etc?
You wouldn’t without a microscope right?
I normally just ping my shit and that’s it.
How the fuck do i know half the shit I’ve bought in the past isn’t fake what the fuck

I'm a novice just like you, but i'd probably start with geological maps.
For fossils to form, you need the good sedimentary substrate from the good period, more than the good animals.
From what i've seen, the easy spots are alongside big slopes, creeks and cliffs, for obvious reasons. And where there are big rocks.

Then i guess it's good eyes, imagination and experience. And a hammer, because you gonna break open many big rocks (which is surprising easy to do).

Idk any youtube stuff related to it, here the first vid i came across, seems interesting from what i've seen so far (England coastline) :

>how the hell would you test if it was fake
Theorically speaking, if it's done perfectly with the correct alloy, you would have no way to tell a fake from a real coin.
I guess that's a risk you are willing to take once you become a numisfag.

I've seen several "warning auctions" posted by powersellers on ebay warning about those kinds of fakes who often target the same coins (chink, jap and US stuff mostly) and have the correct alloy + correct dimensions.
Usually there still are tiny details they got wrong, like a leaf or an acorn with the wrong dimension, and the spacing/lettering.
Also since they aren't cast the same way, there is often depths issues with the engraving. Especially if there is lettering on the edge like for the reichsmarks.

I don't know much (if anything) in numismatics, but the two times i got sent fake coins on ebay, they were incredibly easy to spot once looking at them irl. Like everything was wrong about them : the weight, the details, the alloy. It's like they didn't try, and ebay always refunded me in full (shipping included) without asking questions.

I use a detector, but honestly my best finds have been found by combining research with my intuition or instinct while out exploring and then just digging or looking where I think good stuff is waiting. You'd want a detector for the metal artifacts along that roman road, but the "middens" or dumping areas the romans would have filled with nonmetallic artifacts like pottery and stone etc. often wouldn't be found with a detector that is blind to things over 1/2 a meter deep, so instead you'd need to dig test holes to look at the soil strata for promising evidence and then sift the good material through a sieve screen. I'd also look for spots in creeks and rivers where the conditions are right for the concentration of coins and metal artifacts, then dig and sift that material also.

And yes I do like hunting for and collecting fossils, I love the aesthetics of the naturally rounded "glacial" rocks that were dragged and worn down from hundreds of miles north (placer fossils kek) but have also found some special primary "lode" fossil deposits with rare early 300+ million year old vertebrate remains, much more desirable than the common bivalves and corals etc.

Nobody is going to just sit in threads all day, posting hundreds of posts about how good metals are as an investment, getting into simultaneous arguments with people and making pathetic attempts at memes all day for weeks on end, just out of the goodness of their hearts, to try and help people make a good investment.
There is definitely money behind the FUD shills, they have been employed by (((coin dealers)) who want people buying silver, in particular.
They've even started making multiple threads to disrupt /pmg/ cos they couldn't use arguments and were unable to make the threads unbearable (despite a lot of effort on their part).

Relax. First of all, there are two kinds of fakes. Stackers only need to be concerned with one. The first is faked content, meaning it claims to be PM but is not. The second is fake origin, meaning it claims to be an old or rare coin in authentic condition when in fact it has been doctored or is a replica.

The first kind of fake is easy to detect because the material properties of PMs are unique and inherent in the coin. Calipers, a scale, and a ping test are more than adequate. But buying from a reliable dealer is nearly always going to be okay. Stackers really don't need to worry about this kind of fake unless buying at the flea market.

The second kind of fake is only of concern for people purchasing for numismatic value. In other words, you value a coin not because of its bullion content but because of its history. This is a much more common type of fake because it is much harder to detect than the first type (even experts can be fooled) and because the profit margin can be enormous. It requires serious expertise to detect good numismatic fakes. The best you can do to avoid numismatic fakes, unless you want to spend years in studying the field, is buy from a reputable dealer.

The "owner" class desperately needs you to keep buying into the system as our work and our taxes and our surplus is the fuel that propels this catabolic monstrocity of a financial system. Once you take your capital and lock it up in "barbarous relics" and "boomer rocks" you deprive them of the grease they need to maintain the grift. People need to understand that the entire point of the financial system is to take "good" money and resources and generate a "debt" that gets heaped onto taxpayers' balance sheet. If you want into your bank to cash a $50,000 check and then you demand cash, this is actually a very dangerous prospect for them. Casing a check is NOT the same as having cash. The system is nothing more than a ledger. It is a balance sheet loaded with debts and IOUs that is hiding a severe shortfall in capital relative to what is put into it. Only by removing your capital do you protect yourself from the paper-ponzi that is rapidly approaching the endgame. And that endgame will be staved off with countless tricks by the banks for as long as they possibly can. Those caught without a seat will suffer outright losses along with inflationary pressures as real goods and services are rapidly "claimed" and bought up in lieu of a rapidly depreciating cash.

Which war? Ukraine? Idk. I think they are hard to come by because frens are buying them all up. Just a few months ago they were still readily available but now they're being drip fed by a few shops and that's it. Last week I was waiting for payday and saw 60 of them on sale but then two days later they were all gone. So I just bought picrel instead. These are still plentiful and personally, I like their design more than the beg windmills. Still kinda sucks but oh well.

i was thinking about precious metal etfs. Is this a bad idea? I don't want to manage owning and securing the actual metals, for one I live in a bad apartment in a bad neighborhood etc. I also don't want to deal with storing gold at the bank or whatever.

Any thoughts or general advice welcome.

>> No.55460009

PSLV has real silver as opposed to SLV. ETFs can give you exposure to the "price" of silver but given the market is overleveraged heavily with paper assets compared to actual physical silver that exists it is unclear if whether SLV will even survive. Most people who think they have exposure to PMs will find out that their assets were literal frauds. PSLV as well as SLV may very likely be nationalized as strategic assets. These assets are far rarer than you think they are, and the fact that you are talking about monetary commodities is not a coincidence. Fail to properly understand the metals market at your own risk.

I’ve seen it on /pol/ quite a bit. Now silver gets talked about there more often and so the shills focus on that. I’m sure you know the meme, you can’t have silver/food/guns all that same time. It’s simple, the troll makes a false assumption for example that we are paying 70% premiums and silver is worthless. In the case of preps, the troll assumes that whatever preps you have don’t matter because someone will kill you and take them and you should have spent money on guns because the preps will be worthless. Gets everyone riled up when someone sets up a pin, that is easily knocked down. That’s why all of the so called shill posts gets so many replies. Because everyone lives an easy target.

(((They))) have been FUDing /pmg/ for years, since the first Precious Metals thread. See picrel.

First, (((they))) are short selling silver contracts, so it's in (((their))) interest to keep prices within a small but stable range. This is why the prices for gold and silver tend to crab sideways rather than experience the dramatic highs and lows of crypto, and why they hold their prices in periods of inflation. Read "The Big Silver Short" by Chris Marcus. Beware, crypto nerds: (((they))) are coming for you next.

There's also the fact that the environmentally friendly future (((they))) by necessity requires silver. Silver is used in solar panels and electronics, and to mass produce this the price of silver needs to be low. It's difficult to mass produce cameras if you're paying $1,000 per ounce of silver.

And don't forget: this is maintained by literally hundreds of paper ounces being traded for each real ounce in the COMEX vaults. If it couldn't be maintained, people might panic and dump their Federal Reserve Notes (dollars) for real money.

Low prices for silver are needed to control your money, control your privacy, and to control YOU.
