So, I was thinking about buying a full set of Lord of the Rings commander decks and maybe a booster pack or two after a long hiatus in MTG (haven't bought anything since 2019 and Guilds of Ravnica). It was all trash lately, in my view. I'm a fan of LoTR though and was thinking it would be cool to have a set of different LoTR designed decks. However, when I checked the cards, I was flabbergasted (pic related) and disappointment. Obviously, I'm not going to buy them now (it saves me quite a lot honestly, so I'm also a bit relived). It's just sad though, first amazon LoTR series, now this. It's a shame really.

I'm already pirating all their D&D related products, after the scandal with licenses (which btw also saves me a lot).

So, the question is how can I profit off this in financial markets? Is it a good idea to short their stock (WoTC is a part of Hasbro now, so ticker would be HAS)? It seems that it starts going down after a rally.

Same opinion about their D&D books, really. In the last two books I pirated, all married NPC couples are gay: gnome kings in "Dragon of Icespire Peak", genasi smith couple in Waterdeep, Dragon Heist.

Obviously I changed it when DMed it, but seems biased that you can't find a regular couple, it's always some shit like this.

WotC is the part of Hasbro that actually works. There was a huge outcry after the licensing news and it has barely caused a dent. The biggest issue with Hasbro is that it's a toy company.

Orcish Bowmasters is a badass card. Plus the collector's box comes with box toppers that include Cavern of Souls. There are some other interesting cards like Flame of Anor. Regardless, I do disagree with some questionable design choices for this set. Still on the fence on whether I should get a box or not.

I feel the same, honestly. I stopped entirely spending money on this fluff. Before, I could easily spend a lot on shit like this. At the current prices it would be something like this:

4 commander decks ~250$
1-2 draft booster box ~350$
boxes and sleeves ~100$
gamemats ~80$

It seems incredibly stupid to pay 800$ for a pile of cardboard.

That's a different product though:
6 foiled cards
6 art cards (useless for the game)
3 booster packs (12 random card per each)

for a hefty price of $37, which is almost 1$ per card. Other products (most selling) doesn't show any of these characters on the packaging.

Largely that and other serialized cards. It's also still selling pretty well in terms of normal/set boosters and seems to be pulling in non-magic fans. The point is that raceswapped characters aren't enough to slow it down.

I guess. It's all business, stakeholders require constant growth, which obviously not sustainable. Thus we see all these attempts to expand the product to different fan bases: LoTR, Warhammer, D&D, Transformers, Harry Potter, Walking Dead, etc. They want to get low-hanging fruits and profits right now, instead of improving the game itself, its quality, gameplay and investing in the retention of existing fan base. Most of my friends an myself gave up on MTG 4-5 years ago when they went into quantity vs quality mode with their releases, and started doing all those stupid crossovers.
