I taught myself to code a while ago and have managed to make good enough money freelancing, and got a job offer recently. I do not have a degree.

Any time learning to code is brought up on here, or freelancing in general it is like a hyper doomer parade. I feel sorry for any people actually looking for advice on here who stumble in there because it is a complete distortion of reality.

What is up with it? Why is this place so negative now?

I’m tired of it too anon. We all need to treat each other better. I’m guilty of being too negative as well. I’m done with calling people names on here because I honestly hope you all make. Even the glow bots

Dude you are the literal equivalent of a stagecoach "driver" watching pic related and saying "yeah right, that'll never replace me." Yes the first cars sucked just like chat gpt and shit sucks. But ALL technology improves exponentially. If you're not out of a job entirely in 5-10 years then you'll be competing in one of the most saturated job markets on earth.

Shit. My friend is a teacher at a trucking college and just over the past few months alone he says that there's a ton of duded signing up that were formally in the tech sector. I mean, this shit is ALREADY happening.

Oh I'm absolutely implying this. And that's actually the BIG problem, because what are these people going to do? They can't ALL enter the trades, and it's going to be even worse in smaller communities where there are less opportunities, and thus more competition for work. People will be lining up to get part-time jobs scrubbing toilets for minimum wage and will brag about it in the very very near future. But of course due to the massive unemployment like the world has never ever EVER seen, there's going to be less and less demand for the trades since so few people will have money to pay tradesmen for their services. And everyone likes to throw around the Universal Basic Income thing around, but how are they going to get the money for THAT? How are people that DO have to work going to feel about their tax dollars going to NEETS sitting at home watching tv all day. That UBI bullshit isn't going to work and once the whole shit reaches its tipping point the entire world is going to make the Weimar Republic look like a small bummer in comparison.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I have a pretty good feeling that the very near future will consist of massive homelessness, shanty towns, crime, and if we don't get a grip on things, even famines. We've built an entire global society that revolves around people having to work in order to live, and I'm not too sure things are going to look very good if we subtract the whole "work" part out of the equation.

>Why is biz so doom and gloom now?
Because of bots and glowies making demoralization threads that anons who've been purged from other sites are falling for.
By stealing the attention of these gullible faggots their experience (past, present, and future) is manipulated into being perceived as entirely negative resulting in a feedback loop of negativity as they (the gullible anons) repost the same threads hoping for salvation from external sources (where they have been conditioned to look by other sites and platforms) never realizing that exerting control over their own attention is the only solution to their problems, real or imagined.
You have probably noticed the unproductive language, perceptions and thought patterns they employ Which is oriented around what others have, are doing, or the lack of perceivable challenges these others face/have faced. They then compare these falsified perceptions to their perception of their own life and seek to justify, blame, or otherwise engage in unproductive and futile mental exercises based on what they think they deserve. Never realizing that 'deserve' is not observable anywhere in the world.
No one gets what they deserve except for those who achieved nothing thinking about, complaining about, or demanding, what they deserve.
When you confront them with this objective fact they seek to blame you and assign you into the 'group' who ahs 'taken' something from them. When all you ever took were the heavy chips from their shoulders and the black-tinted gasses that cast shade upon everything they perceive.

That's the thing though, they aren't. Everything people think of as "good jobs" as opposed to possibly well paying but "dirty" jobs (trades, trade-adjacent stuff, real life engineering, etc) can and will be done away with.
