The chart pattern on the DJIA looks kind of bad/resembles a head and shoulders a little bit but the candles indicate a pump tomorrow is likely as we've been going down the last 3 days and it printed a hammer on that downtrend, indicating a reversion to an uptrend. Nasdaq and S and P are similar, but Nasdaq has been continuously making higher highs while the S and P seems to fail to break about 4200 so far.

Overall just as I believed that Monday's candle was bearish, I believe that today's is bullish.

But we must further consider the may selloff. Historically it tends to happen closer to the end of May and rollover into mid-June. Last year's violent selloff over several months was an anomaly, but this year's charts have somewhat mirrored it in the sense that we've been crabbing since April 1st. It is possible we go up for another few days before we hit mid-May and portfolios begin to be readjusted for the summertime. Overall I am betting on a short term move to the upside based on candles, a mid-term move to the downside and over the summer a return to an uptrend before the traditional August-September Jackson's Stinky Asshole dump.

I believe we will continue to see weakness in the job market continue to manifest
I believe that the backlog of orders has been filled, and new orders are not coming in
We are seeing a massive dry up of credit expansion, self imposed by the banks - this will have ripples for a long time to come - none of the banks want to originate loans, this is killing the money supply, and killing future growth
The collapse of loan origination & credit is more destructive than anything else
I think that we will begin to see companies letting go of their employees in the coming months - they have hesitated to do so after struggling to find talent during covid. When there is no backlog of orders and no new orders, you are finally able to lay off employees
We just had a data print of optimism for small business at a 10 year low
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-05-09/us-small-business-optimism-falls-to-lowest-level-in-a-decade?
https://archive.. ph/gerA0
>US Small-Business Optimism Falls to Lowest Level in a Decade
>NFIB index slid in April to 89 on dimmer view of outlook
>Capital spending dialed back on high rates, economic concerns
>Only a net 3% of respondents said it was a good time to expand.
this will bleed into consumer spending; decreased corporate revenues, decreased corporate profits
and I think that all of this will culminate in a rapid decrease in GDP, big increase in unemployment
and I believe that once we see it turn over, it will snowball very rapidly
I believe that after the student loan payments restart in August, we will really see shit get bad; we already have all time high people living paycheck to paycheck - this is before they must shell out an extra several hundred dollars a month for student loan interest payments
I believe that oil is telling the real story about the recession - oil is smart - it is why we are seeing energy getting crushed
We are also simultaneously seeing a collapse in global trade
I am bearish.

As a whole, looking at all retail investors in the entire US, would you say that there are more, or less people on the sidelines with cash waiting to buy stocks now or two months ago?
What about 6 months ago?
How much less?
I think you're being deliberately dense - the number has dropped big, and you know this
The bond holders is a more engaging argument, that 3-6 months from now everyone that has been loading up (as smart money has been doing with these t-bills offering 5%) they will have to decide how they will reinvest

Infinite fiat = infinite growth = infinite debt. It's honestly irrelevant, just a big number for bureaucrats to point to and argue spending cuts for. Then uninitiated voters can also point at the big number and blame an opposing party, the big number isn't actually scary it's the product of nixon killing the gold standard and it absolutely needed to happen for exponential growth to continue. The interest on that unlimited fiat IS important however which is why 2022 sucked for equities. The debt not so much don't get too doomer about the big number just don't fight the trend and wait.

Honestly I think that theres plenty of people who have pulled out. You have analysts calling for crashes all over the place, and just now we have a sign of a spark of life. So retail may start using what they have left.
Dont act like people haven't been spooked. Thats what's being deliberately dense.
With respect to the bonds, thats just where the more savvy investors went because they know it's a safe haven. There are PLENTY of people taking advantage of 5-6% savings accounts (Webull, robin hood, etc).

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/retail-investors-record-inflows-us-stock-market-193801422.html
(this was in February)
if you have 5 months where dumb money is pouring in record inflows, how many greater fools are there left?
I have not met a single person that is waiting on the sidelines to buy stocks in the last 2 months; and I talk to a lot of people, a lot of older guys in their 50s/60s who like to talk to me about stocks
>oh I've been buying Amazon
>oh I've been buying Microsoft
I think people have been spooked - were spooked; but they either sold a long time ago, and have now since bought back in, or are still just holding from their initial and haven't sold
To be fair though to your side, there is record $$$ in MMF right now - you could argue that this money is waiting to buy back in; or that there are fund managers who are/have been short, or who have been waiting to buy in
I just do not see it from the retail side

Bought a chunk of EPD today as well as small bag of IAUX after reading this article: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4582336-i-80-gold-buy-the-dips?source=Messages

What are your thoughts on ATVI? Couple of big releases, Diablo 4 next month. UK regulators nixing the MSFT merger gave it a nice little dip. But I think ATVI is set up for success regardless of whether it happens or not. Either (a) MSFT pushes back and gets the deal done and we see the stock jump back up to the $90-$95 range, or (b) ATVI takes home a bunch of cash as a breakup fee, and the CEO makes it a point to reward shareholders for sticking it out through this nonsense.

(Google releasing a new phone model is bullish, and saying it will be the first AI phone is extra bullish) stock was up almost 5% today and lifted QQQ. The thing you need to realize is that saved us from a deep red day after the CPI news. Notice we had a series of small pumps until the drop. People digesting that core cpi isn't going down and what is a pause going to do? Yields staying high kills banks and asset funds, crabbing kills shorts, companies are sitting tight making good earnings. Oil will continue to grind higher as production dumps. Another huge gasoline draw this week, gas will stay high. I could go on with bearish news.

We are rapidly barreling towards shit tier banana republic nonsense, but that executive order nonsense is what caused this in the first place. Outright ignoring the Supreme Court triggers a constitutional crisis, which he can't just ride through (seeing as his approval is in the low 40's and underwater by 10 points. FDR he ain't.)
