This type of tube has a lid that screws on securely, right? I had some wiener and britannia tubes partially open during transport before, but those just use pressure to close. It was midly annoying with the wiener tubes because the seals broke (coins were ok though).

Man, I've never seen FUD to the extent that has been happening in /pmg/ threads, lately look at these scammers FUDDing up every thread hundreds of posts.
Nobody is going to just sit in threads all day, posting hundreds of posts about how good metals are as an investment, getting into simultaneous arguments with people and making pathetic attempts at memes all day for weeks on end, just out of the goodness of their hearts, to try and help people make a good investment.
There is definitely money behind the FUD shills, they have been employed by (((coin dealers)) who want people buying silver, in particular.
They've even started making multiple threads to disrupt /pmg/ cos they couldn't use arguments and were unable to make the threads unbearable (despite a lot of effort on their part).
The only conclusion that can be drawn is that we are over the target.

Looks like it. I too got a tube of Noah's Ark who slightly opened during transport, the seal was broken. All coins inside were fine but still, i was pissed. You spend big money on this stuff, the minimum they could do is provide a decent toob with a screw thread. Arks' toobs are especially flimsy, they are like 25% shorter than any other 20 tube, first time you see them you wonder how they could fit all the coins in there.

It's interesting how much more Silver was used in comparison to Gold. A Silver Dime and a Silver Half Dollar that circulated for a similar amount of time will have a roughly similar amount of wear, but a Gold Quarter Eagle will be virtually immaculate regardless of how much time it spent in "circulation". It really shows how people's attitudes towards the two metals were different back in the day, keeping one vaulted up forever while spending the other willy nilly.

I think inflation fear is the best method. The silver I bought 6 months ago is up 20%. Also buy food that you can store long term on the shelf.

Tell your wife that once the government prints billions of dollars to save the banks the dollar will be worth less while the silver will keep it's value, then tell her you'll sell back the silver for more cash after the crisis. But do keep some fiat in case you need it.

buffalos are my preferred because they are 100% gold. eagles are mixed with silver for durability but no one needs it out of a case so what's the point?
speaking of- get a case. gold is incredibly soft and it's not worth it to lose value in a trade because of a big scratch in it.
ive used coin supply store with air-tight ring capsules. it makes the gold pop just a little more.
shipping a single case is needlessly expensive and shipping is free over $100 so i recommend using this as a target for you stack and then aiming to fill it. i bought 12 cases and some stuff for silver that i wanted in the future.
be wary of buying on amazon from cheap chinese shit. the chemicals in the plastic won't bother gold, but could negatively effect your silver.

They're an all around a good choice. Low premiums, high liquidity, and they don't need much special care. Pure 24K gold should be kept in capsules ideally, but with .900 or .916 you can just use flips until you have enough for a tube. And without the capsules they take up less space. I can fit all those coins in 3 tubes, so it's easy to hide them. The tubes are surprisingly heavy when full, it's almost surreal.

I've been so accustomed to common coins up until this year. Never held or even really seen bullion (except made-up for movies) until the past 12 months. So in addition to an ounce of silver or gold feeling heavier than I expect, I also feel like they're so large for coins. Weird to be caught between those thoughts.

So far I have almost half a roll of wheaties.
I hope to get a full roll because it would be funny.
If you're going to spend time, attention, and energy on something I say go high yield.
Silver is worth more and you spend less time on it than copper.
Same could be said for gold, but the banks are suppressing silver harder than gold, so my stack reflects whatever hurts banks the most.
Do I stack copper pennies?
Yes.
I use cash and they randomly come in sometimes.
Do I expend any energy seeking them out?
No.

Honestly, the difference between bars and rounds/coins is becoming more and more negligible as premiums and spot price are rising. Something not spoken of here is creating a stack that you feel comfortable selling if the need arose. I’d sooner part with the silver I don’t like and preserve what I love.

Yeah, it sucks having to buy things that you don’t really like but it objectively adds weight to your stack and protects your literally precious metals.

I guess most historical gold coinage was smol (british sovs, LMU 20 francs, etc.) and ditto with silver.
Another interesting thing about the krugerrand is that it doesn't have an arbitrary face value like other modern bullion. It's just "1 oz fine gold", but that still apparently is considered legal tender in South Africa. It would be interesting to hear stories from people that actually used these coins to buy stuff over there.

>>54871877
They're all 1 oz krugs, yeah. It represents most of my savings, which I dumped into gold and silver last year. I had the money sitting in some lame bank and financial accounts, waiting for the stock market to crash before investing. But the past few years have made me lose complete faith in the system.

Some things to consider:
- Wooden cigar boxes. A liquor/smoke store may sell empty cigar boxes for dirt cheap - a bucks or two. Problem: they're made of cardboard or very thin wood - cigars aren't very dense/massive. Keep these boxes small so they don't break.
- Humidors. The next step up in class vs price, you can get very nice ones for the equivalent of two ozt of silver. New ones often come with the humidifier sponge and/or hygrometer still unattached - toss them, and you have a nice box.
- New, classy. Lots of etsy woodworkers make boxes that are fabulous. These will cost you several ounces.
- Antiques. From ebay or thrift shops, box sellers know what they have and charge easily as much as fancy new ones, but you might find one that the seller thinks is junk.

In any case, watch the size. Your eyes may be bigger than your arms. Calculate the volume, multiply by the density of the metal, and figure the full box would weigh about three-quarters of that (unless you buy perfect blocks which take every cubic mm of space).

Also, you can buy tarnish-resisting felt sheets by the yard. One yard has enough material to line several boxes. Aside from padding the interior, it helps keep tarnish down if that's an issue for you.

Searching rolls of pennies is surprisingly fun. You can find rolls with over 50 pennies, dimes, wheaties of varying rarity/value, copper, and I even found an indian penny. If you want to enjoy stacking without it consistently breaking the bank, sorting pennies is the way to go. $1.52 is enough for a pound of copper which goes for $4 per pound on the market at a time when the paper markets are popping off in 1000% spikes. You get to look up the types/years of the wheaties you find, and also get to bust out the scale to sort the 1982 pennies.
fun fun fun.

I keep them all. I just sort of earmark it as cash I hold for long term savings. Zinc is an endangered metal especially given how cheap it is. And once the dollar goes, your coinage will be somewhat of a life raft. Granted, at some point it will be worthwhile to go and unload the pennies if I want to buy silver or something. But I see no reason to go and put my money back into the bank. It may seem petty, but I really do think no one alive really has a solid grasp of just how nasty the coming depression is going to be. There is nothing too petty you can do to prep, and that includes stocking up on foods and medicines etc.
