That would be because if everyone that's direct registered takes the Pure Book King pill all of their shares can no longer be used as locates to borrow. Fractionals really don't have shit to do with shit, they're just a symptom of the disease, and that disease is that if someone has DSPP enabled at all they might as well just be holding shares in a broker. But a third of the company getting yanked out of the DTCC all at once in finality (plus all the shares that were never "counted" as removed because DSPP shares are reported as a different number than DRS'ed shares getting added to the total) would seriously fuck shit up for the short side. My headcanon is that DRS numbers weren't reported on the last quarterly report because the number of DRS shares would in all reality be lower than it was previously, which would be massively demoralizing, when the reality is Computershare could have a hundred million and likely more shares on their books - if you look at both fucking books. The problem is that only the DRS Pure Book counts as being removed from the DTCC because those shares are actually removed from the DTCC, whereas the DSPP accounts shares are not removed from the DTCC and are literally the same fucking thing as just holding shares with a broker because they must BE held as if they were held with a broker if you have DSPP enabled.
