Almost 10 years out of high school and still living in my parent’s basement while working full time as an engineer for almost half a decade.

Why was I lied to? Why was I told that hard work would get me ahead?

do you do HVAC engineering?

No, I work as an engineer for a manufacturer that makes pneumatic and hydraulic equipment (valves, fittings, cylinders). We primarily sell to agricultural and industrial type companies but also sell to some aerospace type companies. I don’t know anything about HVAC design.

if you can find work doing HVAC and/or plumbing design long enough to go on your own you can start an independent firm making plans for little offices and make $5k-10k a week easy.
the engineer we hire for plans works like 20-30 hours a week and makes so much we have to remind him to cash checks.

Any tips on how I can take my career to the next level when I become an electrician?

I was so close to majoring in engineering, probably MechEng too. Thank God I was ambitious and decided that the high tech salaries were a trap which would give me god early career pay and no long term growth, and that finance was the true path to power.

What's your skillset? What do you do in your daily job? Are you responsible for something? Do you have any specialized skillsets?

Think about getting some project mgmt or simulation certs and skill-up while planning upward moves in another company/industry. Heck, think about graduation school. You will not get far if you just cling to your BSc, that's basically like a high school diploma these days.

Haven't mechanical engineering jobs been in a slump for over a decade now?
