Does anyone here collect rare coins? I’ve decided this seems like a natural hobby for a finance nerd and want to get into it

>> No.54627491

i bought some nazi coins on apmex. its kind of boring honestly. no one cares about it much. the price typically wont swing significantly anytime soon (based on rarity)

its cool the day they arrive but thats it imo

I like old, but common, European gold coins but I don't buy for any numismatic reasons normally these are a value buy. If not for immediate profit just get some books on coins and buy what you like.

Interesting, do you flip coins mainly then? I am looking for something more long term, more of a hobby that moves at autist speed where I can just collect a lot of cool coins and hand them down one day.

They get graded, I’ve never looked at a coin catalogue I’m not going to lie, but I want to get into it. The stock market just isn’t old enough for good memorabilia that will last a long time, but antiquity coins are cheap enough I can get into collecting them

>hey goys, not only should you put all your funds into silver and gold so you minimize your profits and so you're not hedged against inflation and so you keep getting devalued into oblivion against bitcoin and ethereum, no, that's not good enough, what's even better if you do is to buy numismatics; rare coins with even less bullion value with mega premiums super hard to sell and get your money back from, especially after societal collapse where they'd be basically totally worthless

English people were living in squalor, getting deadly sick from throwing shit out their windows while pic rel was building the biggest global fucking empire in all of human history on his coin identifying hobby

The elite don't lose their money in "financial collapse," and can continue to chuck it at their frivolous hobbies. Coins are the collections of Kings is a saying for a reason.

Sorry for replying hours later but no I just hold them as an alternative to cash, no intent to sell unless an emergency. Most I am about even on now or a little ahead if I were to sell to an exchange but it's not much money and I like flexing on Gen X'ers that don't have any gold as my 3ish oz's seems large then. Anything gold or silver, even Numismatic plays graded or not should hold value and be able to be passed down. The real bitch of it is finding an heir that won't immediately pawn an entire treasure trove for a fraction of it's actual value.

Man it's like a drug habit. You wind up dealing to pay for your own stash.

I collect rare coins. I also buy and sell those same coins to pay for my collection and to make sure I always have the very best coins.

Yeah but you have to buy them from places outside of USA and UK in bulk because it`s cheaper, by doing that you will
1. Erase the amount of available coins
2. It`s cheap and you will have funny coins

I found a russian gold coin made for 350 years Peter the great if you want a beautiful and expensive coin
An UK coin from the jubilee and death of the Queen will have more value in the future

There`s techniques to store them btw
I`m a thirdie and i spend 100 per month
