in months where the market is crabbing or slightly going down there were some very high $0.60 dividends paid
under normal conditions, where selling calls isn't as advantageous around $0.40 a share
$0.40 / $54.72 = 0.7% a month
some months higher
overall yearly dividend ~11.48% (but that's factoring in the good months) so usually like 2% less
something to keep in mind is that dividends are taxed as ordinary income - you could be paying 25%+ taxes, compared to 15% capital gains

>Generates income through a combination of selling options and investing in U.S. large cap stocks, seeking to deliver a monthly income stream from associated option premiums and stock dividends
https://doc.morningstar.com/docdetail.aspx?clientid=schwab&key=84b36f1bf3830e07&cusip=46641Q332
The investment objective of the Fund is to seek current income while maintaining prospects for capital appreciation. The Fund seeks to achieve this objective by (1) creating an actively managed portfolio of equity securities comprised significantly of those included in the Fund’s primary benchmark, the Standard & Poor’s 500 Total Return Index (S&P 500 Index) and (2) through equity-linked notes (ELNs), selling call options with exposure to the S&P 500 Index. The resulting Fund is designed to provide investors with performance that captures a majority of the returns associated with the S&P 500 Index, while exposing investors to lower volatility than the S&P 500 Index and also providing incremental income. The Fund is managed in a way that seeks, under normal circumstances, to provide monthly distributions at a relatively stable level. Under normal circumstances, the Fund invests at least 80% of its Assets in equity securities (80% Policy). “Assets” means net assets plus the amount of borrowings for investment purposes. In calculating the 80% Policy, the Fund’s equity investments will include common stocks and ELNs, as well as other equity securities.

In order to generate income, the Fund may invest up to 20% of its net assets in ELNs. ELNs are structured as notes that are issued by counterparties, including banks, broker-dealers or their affiliates, and that are designed to offer a return linked to the underlying instruments within the ELN. ELNs in which the Fund invests are derivative instruments that are specially designed to combine the economic characteristics of the S&P 500 Index and written call options in a single note form and are not traded on an exchange. The options underlying the ELNs will be based on the Benchmark or on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that replicate the S&P 500 Index. Selling a call option entitles the seller to a premium equal to the value of the option at the time of trade. The ELNs owned by the Fund are structured to use a covered call strategy and have short call positions embedded within them. When the Fund purchases the ELN from the issuing counterparty, the Fund is entitled to the premium generated by the short call position within the ELN. Therefore, the ELNs provide recurring cash flow to the Fund based on the premiums received from selling the call options and are an important source of the Fund’s return.

So to summarize the situation:
>JEPI supposedly employs a "written call options" strategy but does not write calls themselves, as no written calls appear on their holdings.
>JEPI supposedly invests in ELNs - WHOSE SPECIFICS ARE OBFUSCATED AND HIDDEN FROM THE INVESTOR - proclaiming those ELNs are "designed" to combine "characeristics" of something. On top of that those ELNs are not traded on an exchange. And the icing on the cake is that the counterparties are not known either.
How can you verify that JEPI is writing calls again?

Is it a loss to take a gain? If you have to sell your shares "below market value" it will still be for a gain. Then you just do it again with another ticker. Or flip to selling puts with the same ticker and then get paid to buy back in. I'm failing to see how you can "lose". If the stock price goes down you get stopped out, same as you would without selling the covered call. Or you just hold through the downturn and keep collecting premium to offset some of the loss.

sounds entirely synthetic and can very well mean that those ELNs are just betting slips with a unknown counterparty whose valued are modeled from buywrite indices and include nothing but cash bets.

>Does it really matter when I buy, then?
No not really. That being said, if you are unlucky you could buy the top of the market before a multi year bear market and you returns would be lower than buying the bottom later, but that is unlickely and you wouldn’t time it anyway

Nah man,
you're a coping dimwit incapable of realizing that your capability to gather the necessary information is purposefully obstructed and you are (purposefully) unable to answer the questions at hand specifically.
Out of emotional anger and a need to feel "correct" and "accomplished" you proclaim victory on a battle you didn't even fight.

Specifics of JEPI separate the dimwits from people capable of critical thought.

Yeah and sometimes you’re leaving money on the table because you could’ve not sold the calls. That’s your choice!

>all this cope
lmao.

You don't have to admit that you got destroyed, but everyone who was here could clearly see it. The beauty of anonymity is that you can waltz right into the next thread as if none of this ever happened.
If you really enjoy this, you can even roleplay the retarded JEPI schizo again and start this whole conversation all over again.

If you're truly incapable of trusting that the specifications listed in their prospectus accurately represent the returns profile of the exchange linked notes they're holding, you can call up and ask them directly. Alternatively, you can email them.

You could also look at this sheet on their website which has more specific metrics on the return characteristics:
