My parents are boomer-rich, just about $10M net worth, and they've bought me, my brother and my sister a McMansion each so none of us had to worry about mortgages. They will also be given us their inheritance they're getting from their own parents (who are in their late 80s now) instead of keeping it for themselves.

My parents were both born in dirt poor village people from Greece, which is funny because usually people from dirt poor backgrounds never give their kids anything, but mine are the opposite, they know what its like to be dirt poor and they said they never want their kids to experience that and that it makes 0 sense not to help your own kids out to free them from the stress and concern of needing money to pay for shit like a roof over your head.

My parents had about 1 mil in the bank, but no college fund for my brother and I. They paid for my sisters though.

Mom bought an apartment building in the ghetto and tried her hand at being a slum lord, but got ran out by the tenants. She put about $100k down on the building and threatened me with eviction if I didn't gut the place and paint it. The bank repossessed it but soon demolished it because of a massive roach infestation.

It was hell. I put myself through college, about to wrap up a Master's, too. It gets better when you decide you want better.

When dropping us off at school in the morning, she'd yell "As and Bs!" But ask for school supplies? She almost always would flip out because she had to part with money for lined paper and pencils.

I really don't understand this mentality, they also expect you to inherit their values and mistreat your own children just the same. My dad was Silent/Trad generation and even in his old age he kept trying to figure out how to best use the rest of his retirement to leave to us after he passed. He got roped into a scam or 2 and we lost our childhood home, but we ended up with a plot of land and another house which we sold to get a better one thats value far exceeds the other house now.
He did what he loved in his retirement traveling the country and helping run his own local non profit and didnt need an over the top house for himself, on top of that he was able to leave us something behind.
He was born during the Great Depression so he knows what its like for shit to get real. Idk what it is about money that makes you spite your kids so much to the fact that you would rather give it away to anyone but them.

If I make it, I'm not gonna let my kids have it easy. Too many stories, from ancient to modern about how it ruins a kid when they're born into such priveledge. I will already be spending a good amount of my wealth affording them the best that money can buy in certain important areas like top quality food, healthcare, education, equipment for their pursuits etc. When they're old enough to go on their own, the deal is I will match them if they make a certain amount on their own (relative to how much wealth I have). ie if they can make 500k on their own, I will match them the other 500k so they can have their million. This ensures they are competent and grateful for what they have. But most people are stupid and just bitter spoiled brats to complain about not giving their kids millions to have an easy life. Jackie is 100% correct, that it will be a waste of money and it would ruin his son to just hand him all that money, unearned.

Nine times out of ten you get fucked up rich kids because their parents are absentee parents. Their money and status is there for the kid growing up but they aren't. So you get a fucked up rich kid and the parent tells themselves that it was the money that ruined their children. It's the story that they come up with to avoid accepting that they were shitty parents. So when they disinherit their kids later in life "for their own good" it's just a continuation of that little story that they tell themselves. In actuality it's a punishment for not measuring up to their parents' expectations, because the alternative is admitting fault. Saying "you're a fuck up because I gave you too much money and privilege" is a nice cop out, it's saying "I loved you too much and accidentally spoiled you", which is much nicer than admitting that you were neglectful and didn't spend time with your children or take an active role in their lives which contributed to them being an emotional basket case.

When you see shit like this what you're usually seeing is shitty parents cope by shifting blame for their own bad parenting down onto their children.

What about the one who wants to start a small business but doesn't have the funds initially?
