But you can truly move up into an office position and have a pretty good life if you can read, write, able to organize and understand drawings. Because worksites are filled with ex-convicts, drug addicts, and immigrants or don't know how to work safely, and you're constantly getting yelled at by management with degrees who never lifted or did constructor a day in their life and they yell at you to work faster. Its barely above min wage work, even at 22 or 23hourly + overtime its not worth it, i seen people get life changing injuries from accidents and are fucked for life + people who retired their bodies are fucked for life.

I did it, but its not worth it. I only did it for 5 years, left it at 27 for something else, and i'm starting to feel the pain in my back and knees at 34 years old. It was decent money but not worth it

Some people take 1099 contracts to make quick short term money, and hop around jobs. Then they take as long of a break as they feel, like a year off or w/e coasting off the money.

Not gonna work well for you if you get injured or when its time to retire, unless you've been saving.
But I guess that gives you an alibi to either sue the work or get unemployment.
Not my world though I don't like that method. I want to do a job like this just to get a feel for how things are built, but I have the feeling it gets redundant and if you cant keep up you're canned.

I do, 115k as an electrician in the Midwest last year. Looking at starting my own company in the next 3 months. Lots of fucking hoops to jump through but the amount of connections I have is retarded. Figure I have to try it out while I'm still young and have the determination to not slave for someone else until I retire, regardless of if I have to work 80-100 hours a week for a year or more to get it rolling. I worked in construction for years, I guess technically I still sort of do, although I'm independent. Highlights:
>no air conditioning
>no light
>loud
>surrounded by retards w/ dangerous tools
>always, ALWAYS turns into a clusterfuck due to poor management
>literally multiple trades forced to work in the same area simultaneously to rush a deadline
>GC gets mad when the work comes out fucked up
>work has to be redone 3x over due to constant clusterfucking
>job drags out forever making it feel like a prison

In summary: it's nearly always very hot, very cold, dark, loud, dangerous, and prison-like.

I've worked construction after high school and it was shit. The people you worked with were idiots, illegals, and loud assholes. The weather could be anywhere from extreme cold to nice or extreme heat. The foreman was a douchebag. I had to get up at 600 to get ready for work. Not only that but the pay wasn't even good. Mcdonalds paid more and i wouldn't have to break my back doing it either. Many times other illegals would tell me that someone my age should be studying for a better job instead of this shit. Also sometimes there will be no work available for you after you finish a project.

I was one of the few that was neither so I got to go on some pretty high paying jobs. Tears your body up big time, the chemicals you’re around are fucking horrible. I’ve been exposed to benzine, anhydrous ammonia, radiation, literal shit, chromium, and that’s just the stuff they told us about. Contract work sucks, but you can also get VERY lucky with it depending on what the project is. I’ve been on standby for entire weeks at a time, showing up “just in case they need us” and just sleeping or playing on my phone. It’s rare but it happens.
