Are the options between AWS, Cybersecurity and Software Development? Which is the best out of the 3?

Kind of going through the same thing anon. From my obsessive googling, software engineer jobs are the most abundant (ranging from webdev code monkey actual engineer), even with the current abysmal job market.
How do you plan on learning? Bootcamp, degree, online course?

This is absolutely bullshit. Cybersecurity has a crisis labor shortage and has been since I've been in the industry in the 2000s; only getting worse. If OP gets his CISSP/A and a networking related cert he can easily find entry level cybersecurity work. If you have you CISSP/A and you aren't getting job offers, you aren't applying.

i've heard the complete opposite regarding cybersecurity. yes, they desperately need people, but will not compromise if you have no experience. the only way people get into cybersecurity is when they "fall" into somehow or another.

False.
t. was fresh out of college and rolling in cyber job offers with less than a year of IT experience while part time working in college. Granted, I got a bunch of certs and did lots of extra shit. Yet alot of retards from my no-name college got jobs even without doing extra, just partying all the time and got a degree. Get a compsci or cybersec degree anon even if it's from a crappy online college, HR just wants to see a degree to check the box.

I've been in IT for the past 10 years, touched a little bit of everything. AWS is good money + remote, Cybersec is a meme don't fall for it, SWE is amazing money + remote but is over saturated and people are panicking about AI replacement so your job security is questionable at best. I am speccing hard into AWS and my TC is $200k, $165k is base salary and the other is an annual bonus with some company stock in my portfolio.

How did you (and/or those on your team) get AWS jobs? Specifically, those you know who didn't have 10 years of random IT experience.
I work on the business/sales side of IT (not technical) and want to switch to something more lucrative and technical.

What do you mean by AWS. Like are you a button pusher who sets up resources? Software engineers can do that themselves, and they usually automate all that shit through something like terraform.

Blue teaming is soul crushing work on several fronts. Tell me how cool of a career it is when you have to fill out security checklists and antivirus policies for hundreds of devices - remember, we're talking about OP in an entry level position here. You don't get to be a white hat hacker day 1 you fucking silly bitch.
>>54452222
If you want the full story, I started doing my prison sentence as a help desk slave ($35k), moving on to an overnight junior admin ($60k including a $5k night shift bonus), then doing blue team cybersecurity ($75k), I moved back to a systems admin spot as a senior ($110k) which had a focus on VMware, I ended up getting a few AWS certs that my company sponsored and they offered me a spot as a senior cloud architect, where I am at currently. Certifications get you in the door, connections make you a known commodity. I'm sure there is something similar that can be said for you in the sales department. If you have any questions I will be here for a bit.

I don't understand why you have to get (read: pay for) training before the job. My anxiety/ADHD-addled brain absorbs material like a sponge when training on-the-job, but any time I try to do it before actually having a job (and specific tasks) lined up, I'm taking multiple detours into semi-panic about how I'm going to make ends meet (or self-medicating to avoid that).

You do indeed sound like a hotshot 27-year-old who thinks he has it all figured out and is gonna be cold-cocked by something in their 30s. Can't tell if it'll be personal or career, but your late 30s/early 40s are gonna be rough, buddy. Might even be the kind where you're outwardly successful but wake up every day wanting to jump into a noose instead of your tie.

>> No.54452684

>>54452571
I have no retort, red teaming is a lot more fun but will involve a much more intense set of skills that OP realistically does not have the time to make marketable. You need a strong programming background with a desire to break not only technologies but also people. Encryption algorithms are actually quite strong, most cyber incidents occur because Shaquinda opened up an email and decided to click the attached PDF with an embedded rootkit. Not saying it's impossible but the amount of effort and dedication at this point would have to be obsessive and compulsive, all other activities be damned.

Software Development can cover a lot usually. Lots of jobs you can land with that, although they're all going to be pretty similar as well. Cybersecurity is growing, so it also has potential. A lot of it though is like network/server admin work, so dealing with firewalls and other stuff often. AWS is more specific, but good if you want a more cloud/web background. Anyway, I'm biased because I have a WFH software/dev job and it pays well for mostly minimal efforts, so that's what I'd go for if it were me.

You can do it OP. I was a retail wagecuck until the age of 26, got my first role in IT at the age of 27 in 2019. Burnt out after 1 year 9 months as a sole IT nerd for a small business, then went NEET mode for 8 months, lucked into a second IT job that paid 75K (the first job was 55K a year and was killing me), got a yearly raise twice in a row, left that job at 95k a year and moved into a fulltime WFH job for 140K just a few months ago.

I'm a retard and I did it. You can do it too. IT is a fucking meme. "System Administrators" are all a bunch of retards who rely on MSP's to get shit done, and by being a loner and weird people will try to avoid you as much as possible. It's awesome.

This is probably the best place to start if you have no idea. Feel free to look around at any given path, learn and google what you dont know. Try to explore what peaks your interest and as soon as possible start trying to program to solve a simple problem you personally have. ChatGPT could also be really helpful at explaining concepts or pieces of code you dont understand. If you feel overwhelmed thats natural.
