Is there a job shortage right now(for engineers). Never took me more than a month to find a job. A month ago when I quit my last job I had a 3rd round interview and would get 3-4 interviews a week in general but past 2 weeks new job openings stopped and a lot of positions are being straight up canceled..

>> No.54248931

Engineer is a very vague term
You could be a structural engineer, a mechanical engineer or a civil engineer (lol)

Get that first company. It will be hard but it's worth it. I'm 25 and I travel 100 nights a year. Whenever I use vacation time my hotel stays are always free because of the time I've racked up on business travel. Next week for example I'm traveling to a picturesque location to drive, shoot, and learn to maintain a JLTV, so that I can be certified to use one outside of a military base. The week after that I'm traveling to another place to test out a PROWS minigun, including firing it. I essentially test cool shit, make sure it works well with our program (new heavily armored vehicle), and then design tests, demos, and presentations for the customer. I also am essentially paid to be a dick to subcontractors and tell them why everything they do is wrong and that what we want is right because our name is Lockheed. 4 day work week, hybrid work schedule, fuck random girls on business travel, paid overtime every week because travel time counts as work, infinite funding for current program, and I live in an extremely nice, desirable area. Wouldn't trade this job for the world. $103k salary currently with 2.5 years experience, but will probably get to $120k-ish from what I've been hearing because my job was supposed to be a 2 man job and I'm doing everything on my own, removing the need for a second guy. I'll probably ask for $130k when annual appraisals roll around just to see.

But some programs also suck ass, the important thing is to get in the company first with a clearance, then move around to other programs or companies until you're satisfied.

Lockheed is extremely selective. Idiots will say it's because of diversity hires but it's not, my facility is a eurasian ethnostate. I worked for the DoD for a short while to get my clearance, then applied to 40 positions at Lockheed. Anything that I could conceivably apply to I did, even if unqualified (as long as I had the years of experience). Then the rejection emails came in one after one for a couple weeks, until I got two interviews one week. Then both teams offered me a position. I chose the one that I had a better impression of, because in the interview I joked about him being fat and he called me retarded, so I knew it would be a chill team to work with. So 40 positions, 2 offers, pretty low acceptance rate. If I didn't have a security clearance it may have been more difficult. Also a word of advice, Missiles & Fire Control (MFC) is generally the best division to work in at Lockheed, because they generate the most profits and the employees are treated better in terms of bonuses and salaries. Not sure about space, I imagine they're good too. But getting into the company at any division should be your first goal

Chemical engineer here. Here's the lay of the land as I see it.
>women poured into Chem Eng cuz money and prestige of the degree
>about 50% of grads now.
>25-40% of female grads go on to grad school, never to practice in industry
>10-15% don't want to work in the plants.
>So, about 30-40% ever take their degree and use it.
So, probably half of them never actually use it.
>of the 50% that do go to work, 50% of those will quit the field within five years.
>Best case is 25% of female Chem Engs are sticking around
>its further exacerbated by the fact that of this 25%, maybe 5% stay on a technical route. Most others just pile into management.
So we're starting to see the shortage of technically qualified people now that boomers are retiring en masse. Upper management is freaking out about training these engineers and boosting expertise indexes, cause shits starting to catch fire, literally.
Thats just the women. Now, the minorities you can 2x all of that. They burn out at like an 80% rate.
So, what does this mean? That in the next 5-10 years chemical companies are going to have bidding wars over the few select asian and white men who can actually design and maintain chemical plants. Our annual pay raises this year which supposedly track market averages was 5%, in a year where we're strapped for cash.
If I were to go apply today, I could walk into any company in the nation and demand a 40k pay raise and almost guarantee I'd get it. I expect in my late career between inflation and just severe demand shortages to be making over 200k. All of this because of diversity hires. Whats even funnier is there isn't a solution to this. If colleges crank out 30-40% more demand than jobs, then that 30-40% is going to fuck off to other industries, and if they ever do get a job, they're ~5 years behind in experience.
Anyways, screen shot this, cause if you think Ohio was bad, wait till one of these idiots lights off a refinery. It'll happen within the next 10 years.

Im actually in Arkansas way out in the boonies with niggers already, Louisiana would be a massive upgrade ironically. Just see high rent and mortgages due to so much industry there hence why I said id only go to hidden gems like Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky since the rent and demand to live there isnt propped up by urbanization/industrialization.
For instance those 3 stats, 80k is more like 100k in texas and louisiana
