how do I make money selling a trading bot? I could open source it I guess but then no money would be made. A framework of course because if I printed money with it I wouldn't need to sell it.

It backtests well but backtests mean nothing I need months or years worth of real trades to backup performance and that could take months or years.
in the mean time if I open source it it invites ideas and I'm sick of working on this alone.

the premise is simply brute forcing indicators. it never worked on crypto but it backtests a lot better on stocks.

most indicators have 2 or 3 components. imagine on tradingview you see the backtest for a simple indicator strategy, macd, cci; whatever. that's only the backtest for a single set of options, macd 12,26,9 for example.

bot backtests 0-2000,0-2000,0-2000 shitfilters sorts by whatever metric you want and runs with it.

instead of 12,26,9 which probably doesn't work you now have 378,1039,18 which does; something you never would have found doing it manually.

it's not rocket science but no other public bot does this.

The sustainability of the fuel depends on the feedstock (the biomass that the fuel is made from). Corn ethanol and pretty much any kind of biodiesel in the US has a negative energy equation, meaning once you add up all the energy intensive inputs (fertilizer, pesticides, tractor and other farm equipment fuel, transportation, processing and retail distribution) more energy is used in production and distribution than is available in the resulting fuel. The reason it is even close to economically viable is mainly because of government subsidies, both directly for biofuel production, and indirectly by the general subsidization of industrial food crops. If you consider that as much as half of a corn farmer's income comes directly from the US government as a subsidy, and the other half from the sale of the corn, you can start to get an idea why a biofuel producer would look at corn as a feedstock.
The best energy equation for biofuel currently on the market is ethanol from sugarcane in Brazil. However, there are other unsustainable outcomes from the production of sugarcane ethanol in Brazil, such as the clearing of rainforest to create sugarcane farmland.
The most sustainable biofuel overall is biodiesel made from recycled feedstock. The most common feedstocks for recycled biodiesel are deep fryer grease (usually onions, corn or canola oil, or beef fat), and food safe equipment lubricants (usually canola oil or similar). The problem is that there are many uses for those feedstocks, such as animal feed and making plastics, and the sources are distributed, so it makes large scale commercial production more expensive.
At the end of the day, my assessment is that current commercially available biofuels are not sustainable.

>Interesting to think about how that affects even regular stocks. No wonder the rich people are in safe assets right now, and that would explain my daily 1% bleedoff for the last year.
Volatility drag at 1x leverage is not a real world phenomenon. It's a mathematical convenience for the sake of the equations in that article.
A more realistic view is to imagine that volatility acts as a multiplier. A stock has infinite upside potential but a max downside of 100%. To treat the effect of volatility as symmetrical, on the upside you can multiply and on the downside you divide.
So a more accurate equation using two equivalent periods of positive/negative volatility in a neutral outcome would look like this:
(1 *(1 + x)) *(1 /(1 + x)) = 1
Note that the result is always 1. There is no loss. There is no decay.

Where the real drag comes in is due to the rebalancing effect of different levels of leverage. A triple leveraged ETF resets exposure daily, but it's still proportional to the volatility of the underlying equities.
For example take a symmetrical 20% move: 20% downside and 25% upside.
The first day you'd see a 40% loss. The next day the fund rebalances and you'd see a 50% gain.
0.6 * 1.5 = 0.9
That's 90% of what you started with, or a 10% impairment due to rebalancing drag. Luckily large moves like that are virtually impossible for major index ETFs. Meanwhile, the continuous decay of the US dollar due to inflation tends to create positive returns over time for risk assets when priced in dollars.

To be clear, you can't maintain consistent leverage at any level other than 1 unless you introduce some frequency of rebalancing. If you simply take on margin one time and then never adjust, you'll either blow up quickly or see massive returns to the point that your relative margin becomes insignificant to your overall portfolio - at that point your forward returns are simply the same as 1x leverage.
It's specifically the rebalancing aspect that creates the drag.

Selling a bot seems dumb but look at
https://quadency.com/
https://www.cryptohopper.com/
retards pay for this and it doesn't even work on stocks.

Bot doesn't even have to print you just need to give people options to play with and they can loose money on their own. Then it isn't your fault it's theirs.

>continued
Of course, none of this hits on the critical flaw of that leveraged returns academic paper that scoops treats as gospel. There is a cost to leverage. It's not a free ride. The paper does not appear to discuss this point at all. The supplementary article does have a few examples but it only assumes 0.95% in any models. This is the management fee of a typical 2 or 3x ETF, not the actual cost. Buying swaps, futures, and other contracts costs money. There is a hidden expense. No counterparty is giving you free leverage. Typically these things trade in contango with the assumption that the assets will rise inline with the risk free rate. At present, that rate is the 5% federal funds rate, or 4% over longer durations as seen by longterm treasury yields. They must exceed that rate of return to produce any profit.

That said, its true that you can still profit off volatility and outperform in flat, choppy markets by harvesting the movements using 0.5x leverage or other mean reversion strategies. This concept is generally known as Shannon's Demon. This requires rebalancing of course. If you set up 50% exposure at the beginning of the year and then never touch it, there is no benefit. You would achieve the same flat return. You must actively trade.
Obviously 0.5x leverage will also outperform in a declining market simply by having less exposure to the losses, whether regularly rebalanced or not. If rebalancing though, you can potentially even make money during declining markets. This concept is known as Parrondo’s Paradox.

In general though, I recommend using your brain and constructing a portfolio full of positions that offer solid value, rather than trying to seek out some magic formula that'll give you a free ride to massive wealth. Small portfolios have a benefit of scale. There is enough liquidity for you to easily build a position in all the best names you can find.

can a single bot that can predict the market enough to profit from it smash all volatility?

are you telling me if I open source a bot that works I will turn the entire stock market into a horizontal line?

i'm leaning in the direction of just open sourcing it and making a patreon, if people give a shit then it's worth my time to work on and keep updating the open source version.

For example, lets just say that I theoretically put $4000 into crypto, watched it quadruple and now I theoretically had $16k in crypto. Now lets imagine that I theoretically put half of that so $8000 into this funny haha gambling coin called OpenBetAI or something in August 2023 and just forgot about it cause it's funny to put a lot of money into degenerate industries. But theoretically lets say that it turned to $8 billion in a bit over a year and now I want to cash out and move it to my bank account. How would I theoretically go on about this safely if I theoretically had this much money in crypto, in theory of course.

richfags don't understand the difficulty in playing 1000 pairs with $50-$1000/share pricetags and not being able to consistently 2x every single day; while making <$20/hr and paying rent.

bot actually doesn't find intervals requiring PDT to be super profitable anyway. time will tell how much of a restriction it is; margin is easier to obtain.

what I need to write is a stock screener i haven't done that yet, i just play SPXL/S and SOXL/S.

if this rolls in the profit i would dump a public read only api or something to a trade account or paper trade account if i was selling it obviously. not sure how selling it would even work; to be trustworthy it would have to be open source; it would be an honor system with a license anyway.

Its a real shame. That's the same reason why shopping malls died out because they were full of gangs and thieves. Last time I even went shopping in person was 2010 in North Carolina at a mall. Even during daytime, it didn't feel that safe with groups of sussy black dudes hanging out and it was near one of the NICE neighborhoods too.

Same with retail stores from the old days. Sears, Blockbuster, Toys R Us, even Waldenbooks were affected by crime to a degree iirc. Its gonna suck when everything is going to be online only imo.

Sorry m8 but electricity is too damn expensive in this damn shithole. Like how is it even possible that electricity costs more now than 20 years ago despite better technology? It's almost as if someone was out to squeeze money out of the populace or something, haha

Yes, except the market obviously doesn't give a crap. They see that the companies have withstood the "high inflationary and high rate" market and done remarkably well, which means that the earnings will only get better as inflation has been defeated, right? That's what normies believe bro, and that's what the algos currently indulge in.
Of course the earnings are good for now as the financial environment in Europe is high inflationary but low rate so pretty much no big company has been affected adversely. With the lagging effect of rates, it is only this and the next year that the earnings will start to get affected.
To be honest, who knows... this market is fugged. Maybe the bull run well and truly cannot be stopped... or maybe the ECB will start doing their damn job. Hah, fuckin good one
