Eventually it turned out that the 'Metaverse' was some kind of steam for vr apps where every single app was completely shithoused with microtransaction bullshit. Every single presentation zuck did was just maximum damage control with him pleading that this wasn't just second life with lootboxes aimed at basedjack manchildren.

The issue facebook was always going to have was that technology means you can create infinite copies of information. It would be impossible for facebook to moderate one set of metaverse products against another. If some app company makes money selling digital copies of zuckerbergs eiffel tower then overnight 300 chinese companies are going to start their own metaspace selling eiffel towers. Those retards buying meta real estate thought they were buying a finite resource but they weren't. In this way classical economics is replaced purely by 'hype'. If an 'influencer' can create 'hype' then their set of sponsored shit becomes valuable. This creates a constant boom and bust cycle where one creator would be incentivised to defame another in order to boost the value of their own products and devalue the competitors and hence their customers. I don't want my 200k digital house to become worthless because somebody sent a mean tweet.
