53919880 No.53919880 [Reply] [Original]

I need to rant, I feel like im lost and hopeless. I always thought I'd be somewhere better at 26, I got my degree in communications and never got a "career" yet. I met a girl and moved out of my parents but we argue often and idk if it was worth it or if I love her. I've been ghosted and rejected so many times from jobs more times than I can count. My options feel like they are dwindling and I feel incapable, I work on my resume every day and still cant past second or first phase interviews.

Idk what im doing anymore, I moved out thinking I'd make it if I left my parents, except I only have one wfh job that pays "enough". Im so desperate I will do anything, what options do I have to improve my life in one year? I have one year before my lease is up with my gf who I moved out with due to convenience. My whole plan has been to get a better job.

what should I do ? certs? military officer? crpyto? Anything please help

yk the way I look at at, at your age most aspiring professionals are still in med/law school etc or just starting out their first internships. I mean sure, there are the super sharp kids who are already working, but for the most part, even those who are on top of their shit are still just getting their life together. I'd say 30 is a good round number where you should at least have your shit relatively together. So you've got 4 years to just learn a skill and get the fuck to it. That's 1,460 days. You're telling me you can't learn to code or weld or whatever the fuck in that time? Just sit your ass down, and crack a book. If you're set on your gay meme career then go back and get a masters . Just keep climbing that ladder and don't ever stop, bitch. You got this shit.

I mean, the deck was stacked against you from the start, it is kind of like karma tho (pick easy courses, get shit/no pay). There is a reason only women do communication degree, because they can expect get together with a guy who has a worthwhile carrier and pay for their lifestyle.

If i were you i would go for either an IT cert (something something admin, networking, whatever) its braindead easy and can land you a okay job.
If you want to be sure to not fuck it up, just go for military. I mean its not the best carrier, but it is a carrier.

Thanks anon, I genuinely love your advice. Rare to get it straight like that.

This will sound pathetic, but I dont care about what i do, the fact is nobody will hire me, I've attempted to master interviewing and learned shit on youtube anywhere I can, i mention that shit in my interviews all the time, nobody seems impressed. I would happily become someones personal bitch if they hired me to do it and master it, I guess what Im saying is I need to know what is an industry I can break into with some monk like discipline, I need a way out of my rut, because right now nobody gives a shit about my current +6 customer facing experience or degree

Suicide should NEVER be an option because that is what globohomo is deliberately trying to push you towards. Defy them and keep living.

Since you have a communications degree I suggest that you try and get a job at a local TV or radio station. You will probably have to do something lame like operating a TV camera or a soundboard for a while but once you get the job and have your foot in the door as part of the "team" then you can gradually work up from there.

Why did you study communications? Serious question. And what sorts of jobs have you been applying to? You left that part out.
DESU you should probably go back to school for a more marketable degree. You could have gone to the business school and gotten a meme degree like marketing that would have been more employable than communications, ffs. Another option would be to self-teach computer programming and to try and land a SWE job when the market picks back up again, but you might not have the technical acumen to make it.
Whatever you do you need to lose the desperation. It's possible that your interviews have failed because you outwardly appear low value, personality-wise or professionally.

To expand on this, if you feel you can hack the self-taught SWE route, I unironically think a niche area like blockchain dev could work out well for you. From a guy who learned to code, don't learn to code. Unless you really enjoy it and you're interested in it. It's easy to write code now, and I've picked up several more languages after learning the first one, but it's hard as hell to learn, very frustrating. I know a lot of people who went to bootcamps and tried self study, most washed out and the one who did land a dev job hated it and left after a couple months and doesn't code at all any more. I only still do it because I love doing it, wanted to learn since I was a kid. But junior level devs is oversaturated, there's a strong demand for programmers, but no one will hire you without solid experience.

There's a ton of other IT fields that you can make as much, or nearly as much, with a certificate. Most IT jobs you can do without coding, or with minimal ability, and you can learn coding on the side if you decide to do it later. Best field right now is cybersecurity, they are hiring people with just a Coursera class and poaching helpdesk workers, anyone who wants to do it is basically a shoo in, get the Security+ cert or similar. Networking and DevOps are also good, those would vary but would probably require some PowerShell or Python and more study, but typically a lot less knowledge required than making software.

Not the same anon, but OSCP is quite a valuable cert. I'm in IT and have thought about getting into cybersecurity in the past and that was one of the certs I would go for.

It's valuable as it is relatively challenging though, it's essentially focused on real world penetration testing skills and all the auxiliary knowledge associated with that. If I recall correctly the final exam is a 24 hour period where you're connected to a network with a number of machines that have vulnerabilities and you have to try break into them as much as possible, then following that (after the 24 hour window) you write up a report. Which I think is time limited as well. So based on that you can probably understand why it's considered so valuable.

>>53930093
Also what this guy mentions, particularly -
>Best field right now is cybersecurity, they are hiring people with just a Coursera class and poaching helpdesk workers, anyone who wants to do it is basically a shoo in, get the Security+ cert or similar.
If you have no IT background at all I wouldn't go for OSCP initially, probably try get security+ (and networking+) first. Then you could try OSCP or if it's still too much I believe CEH -
https://www.eccouncil.org/train-certify/certified-ethical-hacker-ceh/
Is easier than OSCP and could be a decent bridge.

>>53930266

Two paths I recommend are Data Analyst or IT.
Both are good choices. I'm bias for the IT route, but my younger brother who's your age likes that data analyst route better
For data analyst
>get microsoft tools suite certification
>get Google data analyst certification for free
>get Tableu data analyst certification (idk if it's free but I hear Tableu is a popular tool for data analysts)
Start applying for positions that are entry level data analyst roles and data visualization roles. Maybe look specifically for insurance companies, banks, and advertising agencies. That's a nice start. Just checked and the pay seems to vary. If you have an alumni association at your school or a jobs center there, they could get you connections that will get you in. Don't sleep on the job center at your uni. There ability to get you into *relevant* entry level work there might surprise you. They might even have some guidance for you.

Next is what I wrote in another thread. You can go the system admin route with the MCSA certification or the network admin route with the CCNA
>get certification for MCSA
Then get a helpdesk job, maybe a junior system admin job if there's an opening. Within a year of working helpdesk you should get a system admin job tho. You should be able to get this certification in like a month. It's not a hard one and you can probably get it done in like a week.
next.
>get CCNA certification
Get a network admin job, or a NOC job (network operations center).
>get certification for Security+ certification
This last one will get you a comfy high paying job for sure within two years. You can easily get a SOC position (security operations center job). They always want people to over see security.
From what I've heard, system admin jobs are very comfy. Check it out.
You can just buy a course on Udemy for like $20 when they go on sale (which is every single week). Just look at the reviews and make sure the teacher suits your style of learning.

Agreed. OSCP is not for someone absolutely new. Network+ or CCNA would be the way to go.

You can make it OP. I believe in you.
Even if you have to get a helpdesk job as you work on your Network+ or Security+ certification, it will give you a foot in the door to a comfy safe career. System admin, might actually be a good goal, not sure if it's over saturated right now. But again, the certification for that one would be a MCSA.

I recommend you look at the cyber general threads they have on /g/ sometimes. It's not currently there in the archives, but they have free PDFs of study material for these certifications. Helps to be able to read the material in conjunction with the Udemy courses.
