I worked at dive bars before learning to code.
I still pick up shifts. I work with friends, meet new people, make sure my social skills don't atrophy into nothing. Keeps me in touch with lots of folks

This. I know a fair few folks in their 60s and 70s and one in his 80s who still work despite having paid off their home (hell, a couple have holiday homes) and have good pensions. They picked up easy clock in clock out gigs versus their actual careers (the 80 year old was a former head engineer for some car company).

They get to be active, social, mentally engaged, and have a routine. A few do it full time, whereas most only do a day or two a week.

They all have a great fear/worry about slowing down. They cite too many friends/acquaintances who retired or got sick and became inactive (or “took to bed” as one described it) and within a few years they were house bound and chronically sick and not long later dead.
