Why does nobody want to work sales/retail/food/service jobs anymore?

Why would you want to work 40 hours in one of the highest stress industries and still be broke?

I’ve considered becoming a bartender, since I’ve heard they make $100k in certain areas like Vegas, Boston, or NYC. But I’m not social nor am I a night person. Working from 6pm to 4am 6 days a week sounds like shit

The machine is breaking down. You can find professionals to do these jobs, but you have to treat them like professionals which means paying them like professionals.

If you're going to be a 30-something wagie you might as well be a well paid wagie like a merchant mariner or a railroad exploder. Really it's weird that people are telling adults to work at mcdonalds, while also saying you're a loser if you work at mcdonalds and deserve to be paid starvation wages. Boomers have no perspective on anything.

Because it's not worth the amount of stress you have to deal with on a daily basis. You get paid peanuts to endure cruelty. It's a shitty gig.

COL has inflated so high that those jobs are worthless and at best only provide a lifestyle near-identical to just living on welfare, except even on welfare you at least have free time.

>> No.53849163

It is surprising how much they're offering for some of these positions that not even 2-3 years ago were getting maybe 9$ if lucky and couldn't even get hired since so many people were employed.

Barley getting a few dollars above minimum wage while I am going to university got professional certifications. Absolutely life-denying makes me not want to work.

This is the correct answer why

Welfare is easy to obtain and it pays about the same as a shitty mcjob, if you are gonna be on the bottom rung of society why even bother.

>sales
Not sure. I’d assume it depends where you are and what commissions you can make.
>retail
Combination of Amazon cornering the market and dealing with shitty customers not being worth min wage.
>food
Worked as a line cook. Watched the bartenders rake in 300-400 bucks in a night while I was sweating my ass off making less than 100 bucks. Not worth it. Kitchens are for people with no options. Bartending can be a good gig depending on location and willingness to kiss ass.
>service jobs
Lots of them pay shit for the shit you have to deal with. But again this is relative to you situation. If you’re in a big city the best you can do is be a bartender or waitstaff at a high end restaurant. Everything else really is not fucking worth it. Better to “learn to code”, work some temp job, or Uber.

If you have half a brain you won’t end up at any of these jobs. These are mostly for people with room temp IQ, people with no options (felons), immigrants, and older people that for some reason just want to get out of the house.

its easily one of the highest stress environments there are.
>work 14 hours a day on your feet all day with constant extreme time pressure on every task you have to do, constant annoying customers, people above you constantly screaming at you
>all for minimum wage, sometimes less due to the tipping bs
No thanks. I have never worked in that industry and absolutely never will, would genuinely rather be homeless. Sounds like pure sui-fuel.

The net pay for the crap you put up with on the job is negative. Opportunity cost + physical toll + mental toll and health implications + risk of being assaulted. It doesn't have to be this way -pay could be higher or conditions could be improved - but companies refuse to change, and workers are not obligated to give them their labor.

This may have been true at one point, but not anymore. The overwhelming prevalence of nepotism and cronyism in the job market means that anyone caught outside a viable network is SOL, regardless of qualifications. Room temp IQ + an influential contact will get you a well-paying job faster than having a PhD, without exaggeration.

Highest attainment percentage to population of merit-based post secondary degrees is immigrant black women so no. It's pollution + constant fear/trauma (shrinks your pfc).
