I might be the exception rather than the rule, as I do some research before hand, so probably best to stick with pmgs if you aren't familiar enough or informed with things like stock trading or crypto
however for the time being my focus is on pmgs with a very small crypto portfolio on the side I'd check back in a year or so

The argument for stacking precious metals mainly boils down to this single fact.

Zero counter party risk.

This can't be said about any crypto as it is all dependent on a sophisticated electronic code. If that code becomes corrupted, erased or access restricted in anyway, especially the transfer of it, that store of wealth evaporates. You don't need a middle man for face to face commodity trading.

From what I've seen, Pt is at a bout its median price. It bounces between 850 and 1100, and is at 950. It tends to linger in the upper range of that spread. If you had something in particular in mind, now would be a good time. I doubt it will go much lower or for long, though there's room.

Pt is sick. It's super cheap by almost every metric. Read about the mining process, and the countries that export it. It costs like $900-$1400 to mine, and mostly comes out of south africa and russia. I traded in some Au and Ag for Pt, and am happy I did.

I should be able to start my stack today, but I have a question if anyone has time:
Is it wiser to get coins (not rounds) from another country? I've heard about stuff like governments desiring/legally being able to take stuff that's considered legal tender. Yet they can't or are at least less inclined to if it's foreign currency.

The nice things about coins are, numismatists hold them in higher regard, and they are issued by governments (so they have respectable provenance and documentation, such as entries in numismatist catalogs). I believe this means potentially more serious and interested buyers. It's even better if they are parts of series that annually change designs.

This question has many facets. If you are poor, stacking for the lowest cost available and not worrying about anything but purity may be the best bet. If you have expendable income, well recognized gubbermint bullion is a good way to go. What are you starting your stack for? If you are already worrying about the government trying to confiscate your stack, have you stacked brass and lead first?
PM's is a very nuanced thing and part of a way of natural life. There is no one best thing to stack really.
Stay away from pandas, numismatics and high premium silver until you understand pm's. Even after I recommend you stay away from pandas

What is the great fear of pandas, anon? Buying from recognized dealers ensures the legitimacy of the coin, doesn’t it?

I would recommend to anyone starting out to save for tubes vs. just buying single coins when you feel the urge to spend 30$. While it’s of course easier and cheaper to simply stack one at a time; you save far more and have a much simpler time storing pre-tubed coins. I can’t believe it took me almost a year to figure that out.

I only buy one panda from each year so I stick to slabbed beauties the same way I do with one-off’s like Kooks and Libertads. Everything else is in bulk tube purchases and are bought in cycles to ensure each world coin gets their chance to get lost in the next boating accident.

No one is saying that silver dollars are good for stacking. Just that they are separate from all other constitutional silver.

>> No.53675171

>>53674767
That sentiment is due to its mintage numbers. There are far more dimes and quarters. Silver dollars, especially some years and mint marks are pretty rare. They absolute earn their premium. Not to mention they are large beautiful iconic coins.

>You would trade a gold eagle for a single egg if that’s all you could find and you were on the verge of starvation.
I'd rather die clutching a gold eagle than trade it for an egg just to end up starving again the next day.

>Anybody else stack junk silver?
Yes, I have about $175FV and I would guess that at least half of that is mercs. Luv me mercs. Luv me BJ's.
>>53674422
Checked. Are you unsatisfied with your pesos?? I was considering getting a couple dos's or just saving for a pre-33 next, still undecided.

Sweet. I did check, I think two were guilded and thus serialised, but no dubs. Despite the small arms it’s still a nice coin. I love mine.

I was the original OP of those early threads, if anyone cares. It wasn't the first thread on /biz/ that focused on gold and silver but it was the first one that had a named general (pmg). I modeled it a little bit after /tpg/ on /g/ which I've been involved with since 2015. I had gotten into pm's in late 2017 when gold was around $1200 and first started considering stacking in early 2016 when gold had bottomed out around $1000. This was when my close friend had told me to start buying because we'd never see $1000 gold again.
