Germany specifically had a lot to gain from integrating economically with russia. An integrated Eurasia could have become a global superpower on par with America, which obviously Uncle Sam can't allow. Global hegemony is unsustainable inherently unless you are the only functioning economy on the planet (as america was post ww2), and America is dragging down as many of its vassal states as it can to stay afloat. The situation is quite hopeless in Germany.
