I don't know at all if a m/a will happen or a ch7 or ch11, and I don't know when all of those unknowns might happen, so its a straight gamble. People claim they know, but they don't. Nobody knows except the ones that know, and they ain't talking.
What I do know is what an asymmetric trade is. I can short and if ch7 happens I earn around $2.75 a share. If m/a happens tho, I can lose several x that $2.75/share.
Or I can long and at most I'll lose $2.75/share if ch7 happens. But if m/a happens and a squeeze follows, I'll earn a huge multiple on my gamble.
The choice is clear:
Best option - long
2nd option - do nothing
Worst option - short

I'm curious how the borrow rates of BBBY is affecting things. I imagine that some whale is swimming naked and the trade became so crowded that he's now stuck. But if most smaller shorters have to close their positions because they will just become unprofitable, there is probably someone who is forced to essentially internalize any selling. So every day this goes on someone is taking on more and more weight.
If the cost to borrow is 100%-400% or whatever they fuck it is. You can calculate how long the shorts have for this stock to go to zero before their costs are higher than their profit potential. Shorts' profit profile has a maximum, so they actually have some time sensitivity here that is royally fucking them over. If we ain't going bankrupt then short capitulation is all but a certainty. It is the naked-whale trying to exit who will cause the squeeze, not the smaller parties. It's such an interesting scenario to think about, and it's comforting knowing time is on our side.
